  • Radial Migration from Metallicity Gradient of Open Clusters and Outliers

    摘要: Radial migration is an important process in the evolution of the Galactic disk. The metallicity gradient of open clusters and its outliers provide an effective way to probe for this process. In this work, we compile metallicity, age, and kinematic parameters for 225 open clusters and carry out a quantitative analysis of radial migration via the calculated migration distances. Based on clusters with age $ 11$ kpc and a steeper metallicity gradient from the inner disk of $R_g < 7$ kpc, which tells a complicated evolution history of the Galactic disk by different effects of stellar radial migration.

  • Evidence for Co-rotation Origin of Super Metal Rich Stars in LAMOST-Gaia: Multiple Ridges with a Similar Slope in phi versus Lz Plane

    摘要: Super metal-rich (SMR) stars in the solar neighborhood are thought to be born in the inner disk and came to present location by radial migration, which is most intense at the co-rotation resonance (CR) of the Galactic bar. In this work, we show evidence for the CR origin of SMR stars in LAMOST-Gaia by detecting six ridges and undulations in the phi versus Lz space coded by median VR, following a similar slope of -8 km/s kpc/deg. The slope is predicted by Monario et al.'s model for CR of a large and slow Galactic bar. For the first time, we show the variation of angular momentum with azimuths from -10 deg to 20 deg for two outer and broad undulations with negative VR around -18 km/s following this slope. The wave-like pattern with large amplitude outside CR and a wide peak of the second undulations indicate that minor merger of the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy with the disk might play a role besides the significant impact of CR of the Galactic bar.

  • Investigating the vertical distribution of the disk as a function of radial action

    摘要: As heating processes can broaden the distributions of radial actions and the vertical distributions of the Galactic disks, we investigate the vertical distribution of the Galactic disks as a function of radial action based on Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment(APOGEE) and Gaia data in order to deepen our understanding of the formation and heating history of the Galactic disks. We find that the distributions of radial action for both the thin and thick disks can be approximately described by pseudo-isothermal distributions, which give a statistical measurement for the temperature of the disk as indicated by the mean radial action of the star sample. Estimations of the scale heights in different radial action ranges for these pseudo-isothermal distributions of the disks seem to show fixed relationships between radial action $J_R$ and scale height $h$. We describe these relationships with a two-parameter function of $h = \sqrt{J_R /a} + b$, where $a$ and $b$ are free parameters. When testing with a three-parameter function of $h=\sqrt[\alpha]{J_R/a}+b$, we find that this two-parameter function describes the thin disk well, but we note the function should be used with care for the thick disk. When comparing the best-fit relationships between the inner and outer disk for both of the thin and thick disks, we find that the relationships are nearly the same for the thin disks but are different for the thick disks. The inner thick disk shows a nearly flattened relationship, while the outer thick disk presents a gradually increasing relationship. This work highlights an alternative way to unveil the heating history of the disks by investigating the relationship between scale height and radial action, as these relationships encode the formation and heating history of the Galactic disks.

  • Interstellar Extinction and Elemental Abundances: Individual Sight Lines

    摘要: While it is well recognized that both the Galactic interstellar extinction curves and the gas-phase abundances of dust-forming elements exhibit considerable variations from one sight line to another, as yet most of the dust extinction modeling efforts have been directed to the Galactic average extinction curve, which is obtained by averaging over many clouds of different gas and dust properties. Therefore, any details concerning the relationship between the dust properties and the interstellar environments are lost. Here we utilize the wealth of extinction and elemental abundance data obtained by space telescopes and explore the dust properties of a large number of individual sight lines. We model the observed extinction curve of each sight line and derive the abundances of the major dust-forming elements (i.e., C, O, Si, Mg and Fe) required to be tied up in dust (i.e., dust depletion). We then confront the derived dust depletions with the observed gas-phase abundances of these elements and investigate the environmental effects on the dust properties and elemental depletions. It is found that for the majority of the sight lines the interstellar oxygen atoms are fully accommodated by gas and dust and therefore there does not appear to be a "missing oxygen" problem. For those sight lines with an extinction-to-hydrogen column density $A_V/N_H$ $>$ 4.8$\times$10$^{-22}$ mag cm$^2$/H there are shortages of C, Si, Mg and Fe elements for making dust to account for the observed extinction, even if the interstellar C/H, Si/H, Mg/H and Fe/H abundances are assumed to be proto-solar abundances augmented by Galactic chemical evolution.

  • Tracing the Origin of Moving Groups. III. Detecting Moving Groups in The LAMOST DR7

    摘要: We revisit the moving groups (MGs) in the solar neighborhood with a sample of 91969 nearby stars constructed from LAMOST DR7. Using the wavelet technique and Monte Carlo simulations, five MGs together with a new candidate located at $V \simeq$ -130 km s$^{-1}$ are detected simultaneously in $V-\sqrt{U^2+2V^2}$ space. Taking into account the other known MGs, we conclude that MGs in the Galactic disk are spaced by approximately 15 $\sim$ 25 km s$^{-1}$ along $V$ velocity. The origin of detected MGs is analysed through the distributions of [Fe/H]$-$[Mg/Fe] and ages. Our results support attributing the origin to the continuous resonant mechanisms probably induced by the bar or spiral arms of the Milky Way.

  • Extended Tidal Tails of IC 4756 detected by {\it Gaia} EDR3

    摘要: We report the discovery of emerged tidal tails around open cluster IC 4756 ($\sim$ 1 Gyr) based on 644 members identified from {\it Gaia} EDR3. Three-dimensional spatial positions, two-dimensional tangential velocities $\left( x, y, z, \kappa \cdot \mu_{\alpha}^{*}/\varpi, \kappa \cdot \mu_{\delta}/\varpi \right)$ are utilized to determine the co-moving member candidates of IC 4756. Using a Bayesian method, we correct the distance for each cluster member. Two tidal tails extend up to 180 pc and display a S-shape in $X^{\prime}Y^{\prime}$ space (Cartesian coordinates focused on cluster center). A clean sequence of our members in Color-Absolute-Magnitude Diagram (CAMD) indicates the coeval population and matches perfectly with the PARSEC isochrone with age from Bossini et al. (2019). Mass segregation is detected in this cluster as well. Finally, we derive the tidal radius and core radius of IC 4756 about $12.13$ pc and $4.33 \pm 0.75$ pc, respectively.

  • The stellar parameters and elemental abundances from low-resolution spectra I: 1.2 million giants from LAMOST DR8

    摘要: As a typical data-driven method, deep learning becomes a natural choice for analysing astronomical data. In this study, we built a deep convolutional neural network to estimate basic stellar parameters $T\rm{_{eff}}$, log g, metallicity ([M/H] and [Fe/H]) and [$\alpha$/M] along with 10 individual elemental abundances ([C/Fe], [N/Fe], [O/Fe], [Mg/Fe], [Al/Fe], [Si/Fe], [Cl/Fe], [Ca/Fe], [Mn/Fe], [Ni/Fe]). The neural network is trained using common stars between the APOGEE survey and the LAMOST survey. We used low-resolution spectra from LAMOST survey as input, and measurements from APOGEE as labels. For stellar spectra with the signal-to-noise ratio in g band larger than 10 in the test set, the mean absolute error (MAE) is 29 K for $T\rm{_{eff}}$, 0.07 dex for log g, 0.03 dex for both [Fe/H] and [M/H], and 0.02 dex for [$\alpha$/M]. The MAE of most elements is between 0.02 dex and 0.04 dex. The trained neural network was applied to 1,210,145 giants, including sub-giants, from LAMOST DR8 within the range of stellar parameters 3500 K < $T\rm{_{eff}}$ < 5500 K, 0.0 dex < log g < 4.0 dex, -2.5 dex < [Fe/H] < 0.5 dex. The distribution of our results in the chemical spaces is highly consistent with APOGEE labels and stellar parameters show consistency with external high-resolution measurements from GALAH. The results in this study allows us to further studies based on LAMOST data and deepen our understanding of the accretion and evolution history of the Milky Way.     摘要: With the calculated guiding center radius $R_{guiding}$ and birth radius $R_{birth}$, we investigate the role of radial migration on the description of lithium evolution in the Galactic disk based on the upper envelope of the A(Li) vs. [Fe/H] diagram. Using migration distances, we find that stars in the solar neighborhood are born at different locations in the galactic disk, and cannot all be explained by models of chemical evolution in the solar neighborhood. It is found that the upper envelope of the A(Li) vs. [Fe/H] diagram varies significantly with $R_{birth}$, which explains the decrease of Li for super-metal-rich (SMR) stars because they are non-young stars born in the inner disk. The upper envelope of Li-$R_{birth}$ plane fits very well with chemical evolution models by Grisoni et al. for $R_{birth} = 7 - 12$ kpc, outside which young stars generally lack sufficient time to migrate to the solar neighborhood. For stars born in the solar neighborhood, the young open clusters and the upper envelope of field stars with age $<$ 3 Gyr fit well with theoretical prediction. We find that calculations using stars with ages less than 3 Gyr are necessary to obtain an undepleted Li upper envelope, and that stars with solar age (around 4.5 Gyr) have depleted around 0.3 dex from the original value based on the chemical evolution model of Grisoni et al.

  • Revisit of open clusters UPK 39, UPK 41 and PHOC 39 : a new binary open cluster found

    摘要: We investigate the three open clusters near Aquila Rift cloud, named as UPK 39 (\texttt{c1} hereafter), UPK 41 (\texttt{c2} hereafter) in Sim et al. (2019) and PHOC 39 (\texttt{c3} hereafter) in Hunt \& Reffert (2021), respectively. Using photometric passpands, reddening, and extinction from Gaia DR3, we construct the color-absolute-magnitude diagram (CAMD). Using isochrone fits their ages are estimated as $6.3\pm0.9$, $8.1\pm1.4$ and $21.8\pm2.2$ Myr, respectively. Their proper motions and radial velocities, estimated using data from Gaia and LAMOST are very similar. From their orbits, relative distances among them at different times, kinematics, ages, and metallicities, we conclude that \texttt{c1} and \texttt{c2} are primordial binary open cluster, which are likely to have been formed at the same time, and \texttt{c3} may capture \texttt{c1}, \texttt{c2} in the future.

  • Influence of the Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus on the density shape of the Galactic stellar halo revealed by halo K giants from the LAMOST survey

    摘要: We present a study of the influence of the Gaia-Sausage-Enceladus (GSE) on the density shape of the Galactic stellar halo using 11624 K giants from the LAMOST survey. Every star is assigned a probability of being a member of the GSE based on its spherical velocities and metallicity by a Gaussian Mixture Model. We divide the stellar halo into two parts by the obtained probabilities, of which one is composed of the GSE members and defined as the GSE-related halo, and the other one is referred to as the GSE-removed halo. Using a non-parametric method, the radial number density profiles of the two stellar halos can be well described by a single power law with a variable flattening $q$ ($r = \sqrt{R^2+[(Z/q(r))]^2}, \nu = {\nu_0}r^{-\alpha}$). The index $\alpha$ is $4.92\pm0.12$ for the GSE-related halo and $4.25\pm0.14$ for the GSE-removed halo. Both the two stellar halos are vertically flattened at smaller radii but become more spherical at larger radii. We find that the GSE-related halo is less vertically flattened than the GSE-removed halo, and the difference of $q$ between the two stellar halos ranges from 0.07 to 0.15. However, after the consideration of the bias, it is thought to be within 0.08 at most of the radii. Finally, we compare our results with two Milky Way analogues which experience a significant major merger in the TNG50 simulation. The study of the two analogues also shows that the major merger-related stellar halo has a smaller ellipticity than the major merger-removed stellar halo.

  • A New Cold Stream near the Southern Galactic Pole

    摘要: We report the discovery of a cold stream near the southern Galactic pole (dubbed as SGP-S) detected in $Gaia$ Early Data Release 3. The stream is at a heliocentric distance of $\sim$ 9.5 kpc and spans nearly 58$^\circ$ by 0.6$^\circ$ on sky. The colour-magnitude diagram of SGP-S indicates an old and metal-poor (age $\sim$ 12 Gyr, [M/H] $\sim$ -2.0 dex) stellar population. The stream's surface brightness reaches an exceedingly low level of $\Sigma_G \simeq$ 36.2 mag arcsec$^{-2}$. Neither extant globular clusters nor other known streams are associated with SGP-S.

  • Contribution of Gaia Sausage to the Galactic Stellar Halo Revealed by K Giants and Blue Horizontal Branch Stars from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope, Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and Gaia

    摘要: We explore the contribution of the Gaia-Sausage to the stellar halo of the Milky Way by making use of a Gaussian Mixture model (GMM) and applying it to halo star samples of LAMOST K giants, SEGUE K giants, and SDSS blue horizontal branch stars. The GMM divides the stellar halo into two parts, of which one represents a more metal-rich and highly radially biased component associated with an ancient, head-on collision referred to as the Gaia-Sausage, and the other one is a more metal-poor and isotropic halo. A symmetric bimodal Gaussian is used to describe the distribution of spherical velocity of the Gaia-Sausage, and we find that the mean absolute radial velocity of the two lobes decreases with Galactocentric radius. We find that the Gaia-Sausage contributes about $41\%-74\%$ of the inner (Galactocentric radius $r_\mathrm{gc} < 30$ kpc) stellar halo. The fraction of stars of the Gaia-Sausage starts to decline beyond $r_\mathrm{gc} \sim$ $25-30$ kpc, and the outer halo is found to be significantly less influenced by the Gaia-Sausage than the inner halo. After the removal of halo substructures found by integrals of motion, the contribution of the \textit{Gaia}-Sausage falls slightly within $r_\mathrm{gc} \sim$ 25 kpc, but is still as high as $30\%-63\%$. Finally, we select several possible Sausage-related substructures consisting of stars on highly eccentric orbits. The GMM/Sausage component agrees well with the selected substructure stars in their chemodynamical properties, which increases our confidence in the reliability of the GMM fits.

  • Effect of surface H$_2$ on molecular hydrogen formation on interstellar grains

    摘要: We investigate how the existence of hydrogen molecules on grain surfaces may affect H$_2$ formation efficiency in diffuse and translucent clouds. Hydrogen molecules are able to reduce the desorption energy of H atoms on grain surfaces in models. The detailed microscopic Monte Carlo method is used to perform model simulations. We found that the impact of the existence of H$_2$ on H$_2$ formation efficiency strongly depends on the diffusion barriers of H$_2$ on grain surfaces. Diffuse cloud models that do not consider surface H$_2$ predict that H atom recombination efficiency is above 0.5 over a grain temperature (T) range 10 K and 14 K. The adopted H$_2$ diffusion barriers in diffuse cloud models that consider surface H$_2$ are 80$\%$ H$_2$ desorption energies so that H$_2$ can be trapped in stronger binding sites. Depending on model parameters, these diffuse cloud models predict that the recombination efficiency is between nearly 0 and 0.5 at 10 K $\leq$ T $\leq$ 14 K. Translucent cloud model results show that H$_2$ formation efficiency is not affected by the existence of surface H$_2$ if the adopted average H$_2$ diffusion barrier on grain surfaces is low (194 K) so that H$_2$ can diffuse rapidly on grain surfaces. However, the recombination efficiency can drop to below 0.002 at T $\geq$ 10 K if higher average H$_2$ diffusion barrier is used (255 K) in translucent cloud models.

  • Vertical structure of Galactic disk kinematics from LAMOST K giants

    摘要: We examine the vertical structure of Galactic disk kinematics over a Galactocentric radial distance range of $R=5-15$ $\rm{kpc}$ and up to $3$ $\rm{kpc}$ away from the Galactic plane, using the K-type giants surveyed by LAMOST. Based on robust measurements of three-dimensional velocity moments, a wobbly disk is detected in a phenomenological sense. An outflow dominates the radial motion of the inner disk, while in the outer disk there exist alternate outward and inward flows. The vertical bulk velocities is a combination of breathing and bending modes. A contraction-like breathing mode with amplitudes increasing with the distance to the plane and an upward bending mode dominate the vertical motion outside $R_0$, and there are reversed breathing mode and bending mode at $R展开 -->

  • High-{\alpha}-Metal-Rich stars in the LAMOST-MRS survey and its connection with the galactic bulge

    摘要: We report the detection of a large sample of high-$\alpha$-metal-rich stars on the low giant branch with $2.60.2$ than the comparison group. These properties strongly indicate its connection with the outer bar/bulge region at $R=3-5$ kpc. A tentative interpretation of this special group is that its stars were formed in the X-shaped bar/bulge region, close to its corotation radius, where radial migration is the most intense, and brings them to present locations at 9 kpc and beyond. Low eccentricities and slightly outward radial excursions of its stars are consistent with this scenario. Its kinematics (cold) and chemistry ($[\alpha/Fe]$ $\sim 0.1$) further support the formation of the instability-driven X-shaped bar/bulge from the thin disk.

  • A spectroscopic study of blue supergiant stars in Local Group spiral galaxies: Andromeda and Triangulum

    摘要: Low-resolution LAMOST and Keck spectra of blue supergiant stars distributed over the disks of the Local Group spiral galaxies M 31 and M 33 are analyzed to determine stellar effective temperatures, gravities, metallicities, and reddening. Logarithmic metallicities at the center of the galaxies (in solar units) of $0.30\pm0.09$ and $0.11\pm0.04$ and metallicity gradients of $-0.37\pm0.13$ dex/$R_{25}$ and $-0.36\pm0.16$ dex/$R_{25}$ are measured for M 31 and M 33, respectively. For M 33 the 2-dimensional distribution of metallicity indicates a deviation from azimutal symmetry with an off-centre peak. The flux-weighted gravity-luminosity relationship of blue supergiant stars is used to determine a distance modulus of 24.51$\pm$0.13 mag for M 31 and 24.93$\pm$0.07 mag for M 33. For M 31 the flux-weighted gravity--luminosity relationship (FGLR) distance agrees well with other methods. For M 33 the FGLR-based distance is larger than the distances from Cepheids studies but it is in good agreement with work on eclipsing binaries, planetary nebulae , long-period variables, and the tip of the red giant branch.
