• On the Correlation Between Atomic Gas and Bars in Galaxies

    摘要: We analyze the correlation between properties of large-scale bars and atomic gas content of galaxies to explore the role of HI gas on bar evolution in galaxies. We show that the absolute bar size depends strongly on total stellar mass of galaxies and does not change significantly with HI gas fraction at fixed stellar mass. Furthermore, the physical size of the bar is small and nearly constant in high Hi gas fraction and low-mass galaxies, and becomes larger with increasing galactic stellar mass in low gas fraction galaxies. When the stellar masses are fixed, the relative bar length normalized to the disk shows a decrease with increasing HI gas fraction due to the larger disks in gas-richer galaxies. We measure the gas deficiency of the samples and find that the gas-rich galaxies have longer and stronger bars compared with the Hi gas-deficient galaxies at fixed stellar mass, especially for the massive ones. When splitting the samples into star forming and quiescent subgroups, the star forming galaxies tend to have longer bars than the quiescent ones at fixed stellar mass and gas deficiency. In addition, our results suggest two different types of bar properties, in which the bars in gas-rich galaxies grow longer but retain similar axial ratio over time, while they grow longer and fatter over time in gas-poor galaxies.

  • 60 candidate high-velocity stars originating from the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy in Gaia EDR3

    摘要: Using proper motions from Gaia Early Data Release 3 (Gaia EDR 3) and radial velocities from several surveys, we identify 60 candidate high-velocity stars with total velocity greater than 75\% escape velocity that probably origin from Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy (Sgr) by orbital analysis. Sgr's gravity has little effect on the results and the Large Magellanic Cloud's gravity has non-negligible effect on only a few stars. The closest approach of these stars to the Sgr occurs when the Sgr passed its pericenter ($\sim$ 38.2 Myr ago), which suggest they were tidally stripped from the Sgr. The positions of these stars in the HR diagram and the chemical properties of 19 of them with available [Fe/H] are similar with the Sgr stream member stars. This is consistent with the assumption of their accretion origin. Two of the 60 are hypervelocity stars, which may also be produced by Hills mechanism.

  • Element abundance analysis of the metal-rich stellar halo and high-velocitythick disk in the galaxy

    摘要: Based on the second Gaia data release (DR2) and APOGEE (DR16) spectroscopic surveys, wedefined two kinds of star sample: high-velocity thick disk (HVTD) with $v{\phi}>90km/s$ and metal-richstellar halo (MRSH) with $v{\phi}<90km/s$. Due to high resolution spectra data from APOGEE (DR16),we can analyze accurately the element abundance distribution of HVTD and MRSH. These elementsabundance constituted a multidimensional data space, and we introduced an algorithm method forprocessing multi-dimensional data to give the result of dimensionality reduction clustering. Accordingto chemical properties analysis, we derived that some HVTD stars could origin from the thin disk,and some MRSH stars from dwarf galaxies, but those stars which have similar chemical abundancecharacteristics in both sample may form in-situ.

  • Development of a Front End Array for Broadband Phased Array Receiver

    摘要: The receiver is a signal receiving device placed at the focus of the telescope. In order to improve the observation efficiency, the concept of phased array receiver has been proposed in recent years, which places a small phased array at the focal plane of the reflector, and flexible pattern and beam scanning functions can be achieved through a beamforming network. If combined with the element multiplexing, all beams within the entire field of view can be observed simultaneously to achieve continuous sky coverage. This article focuses on the front-end array of phased array receiver at 0.7–1.8 GHz for QiTai Telescope, and designs a Vivaldi antenna array of PCB structure with dual line polarization. Each polarization antenna is designed to arrange in a rectangle manner by 11 × 10. Based on the simulation results of the focal field, 32, 18, and eight elements were selected to form one beam at 0.7, 1.25, and 1.8 GHz. An analog beamforming network was constructed, and the measured gains of axial beam under uniform weighting were 19.32, 13.72, and 15.22 dBi. Combining the beam scanning method of reflector antenna, the pattern test of different position element sets required for PAF beam scanning was carried out under independent array. The pattern optimization at 1.25 GHz was carried out by weighting method of conjugate field matching. Compared with uniform weighting, the gain, sidelobe level, and main beam direction under conjugate field matching have been improved. Although the above test and simulation results are slightly different, which is related to the passive array and laboratory testing condition, the relevant work has accumulated experience in the development of the front-end array for the phased array receiver, and has good guiding significance for future performance verification after the array is installed on the telescope.

  • Identification of new M31 star cluster candidates from PAndAS images using convolutional neural networks

    摘要: Context.Identification of new star cluster candidates in M31 is fundamental for the study of the M31 stellar cluster system. The machine-learning method convolutional neural network (CNN) is an efficient algorithm for searching for new M31 star cluster candidates from tens of millions of images from wide-field photometric surveys. Aims.We search for new M31 cluster candidates from the high-quality $g$- and $i$-band images of 21,245,632 sources obtained from the Pan-Andromeda Archaeological Survey (PAndAS) through a CNN. Methods.We collected confirmed M31 clusters and noncluster objects from the literature as our training sample. Accurate double-channel CNNs were constructed and trained using the training samples. We applied the CNN classification models to the PAndAS $g$- and $i$-band images of over 21 million sources to search new M31 cluster candidates. The CNN predictions were finally checked by five experienced human inspectors to obtain high-confidence M31 star cluster candidates. Results.After the inspection, we identified a catalogue of 117 new M31 cluster candidates. Most of the new candidates are young clusters that are located in the M31 disk. Their morphology, colours, and magnitudes are similar to those of the confirmed young disk clusters. We also identified eight globular cluster candidates that are located in the M31 halo and exhibit features similar to those of confirmed halo globular clusters. The projected distances to the M31 centre for three of them are larger than 100\,kpc.

  • Photometric redshifts and Galaxy Clusters for DES DR2, DESI DR9, and HSC-SSP PDR3 Data

    摘要: Photometric redshift (photo-z) is a fundamental parameter for multi-wavelength photometric surveys, while galaxy clusters are important cosmological probers and ideal objects for exploring the dense environmental impact on galaxy evolution. We extend our previous work on estimating photo-z and detecting galaxy clusters to the latest data releases of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) imaging surveys, Dark Energy Survey (DES), and Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) imaging surveys and make corresponding catalogs publicly available for more extensive scientific applications. The photo-z catalogs include accurate measurements of photo-z and stellar mass for about 320, 293, and 134 million galaxies with $r<23$, $i<24$, and $i<25$ in DESI DR9, DES DR2, and HSC-SSP PDR3 data, respectively. The photo-z accuracy is about 0.017, 0.024, and 0.029 and the general redshift coverage is $z<1$, $z<1.2$, and $z<1.6$, respectively for those three surveys. The uncertainties of the logarithmic stellar mass that is inferred from stellar population synthesis fitting is about 0.2 dex. With the above photo-z catalogs, galaxy clusters are detected using a fast cluster-finding algorithm. A total of 532,810, 86,963, and 36,566 galaxy clusters with the number of members larger than 10 are discovered for DESI, DES, and HSC-SSP, respectively. Their photo-z accuracy is at the level of 0.01. The total mass of our clusters are also estimated by using the calibration relations between the optical richness and the mass measurement from X-ray and radio observations.   • Distributed YSOs in the Perseus Molecular Cloud from the Gaia and LAMOST Surveys

    摘要: Identifying the young optically visible population in a star-forming region is essential for fully understanding the star formation event. In this paper, We identify 211 candidate members of the Perseus molecular cloud based on Gaia astronomy. We use LAMOST spectra to confirm that 51 of these candidates are new members, bringing the total census of known members to 856. The newly confirmed members are less extincted than previously known members. Two new stellar aggregates are identified in our updated census. With the updated member list, we obtain a statistically significant distance gradient of $\rm 4.84\;pc\;deg^{-1}$ from west to east. Distances and extinction corrected color-magnitude diagrams indicate that NGC 1333 is significantly younger than IC 348 and the remaining cloud regions. The disk fraction in NGC 1333 is higher than elsewhere, consistent with its youngest age. The star formation scenario in the Perseus molecular cloud is investigated and the bulk motion of the distributed population is consistent with the cloud being swept away by the Per-Tau Shell.

  • Searching Extra-tidal Features around the Globular Cluster Whiting 1

    摘要: Whiting 1 is a faint and young globular cluster in the halo of the Milky Way, and was suggested to have originated in the Sagittarius spherical dwarf galaxy (Sgr dSph). In this paper, we use the deep DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys to explore tentative spatial connection between Whiting 1 and the Sgr dSph. We redetermine the fundamental parameters of Whiting 1 and use the best-fitting isochrone (age $\tau$=6.5 Gyr, metalicity Z=0.005 and $\rm d_{\odot}$=26.9 kpc) to construct a theoretical matched filter for the extra-tidal features searching. Without any smooth technique to the matched filter density map, we detect a round-shape feature with possible leading and trailing tails on either side of the cluster. This raw image is not totally new compared to old discoveries, but confirms that no more large-scale features can be detected under a depth of r<=22.5 mag. In our results, the whole feature stretches 0.1-0.2 degree along the orbit of Whiting 1, which gives a much larger area than the cluster core. The tails on both sides of the cluster align along the orbital direction of the Sgr dSph as well as the cluster itself, which implies that these debris are probably stripped remnants of Whiting 1 by the Milky Way.
