Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: Due to the special strategy role and the trends of global warming, the Arctic region attracts many interests. The underwater acoustics play a very important role in the ocean research work of Arctic region and its neighborhood. The research work of underwater signal processing in polar region is relative late than the other field of underwater acoustics. It focuses on polar region especially the Arctic ocean environment, studies the effects of underwater acoustic environment and its adaptive signal processing methods. In this paper, the outline of research work, since WWII, of underwater acoustics in Arctic region and its neighborhood is introduced. The specific research issues and results different from the traditional underwater acoustics in this special region are discussed. It is shown that the characteristics of Arctic ocean environment has more important role in underwater signal processing and sonar design, , some special treatments must be taken in matching the requirement of Arctic underwater acoustics.

  • Development of Underwater Acoustic Communication Technology

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: Underwater acoustic communication is a key technology in the field of underwater activities including underwater surveillance, underwater operations, and military actions. The complexity of the underwater communication channel strongly restricts underwater communication speed, distance, and reliability. Incoherent communication is more robust to channel variation and is wildly used today. Coherent communication is ten times faster than incoherent communication. But it is more vulnerable to channel variation. It is still under developing. To further improve underwater communication performance, the community is keeping improving adaptive equalization algorithms, error correction coding, etc., and developing new technologies like time reversal technology, MIMO technology, etc. Many Chinese organizations joined in the development of underwater communication and networking technology. They carried out theoretical researching, prototypes building, lake and sea trials, and achieved much progress. Especially in last fifteen years, with enhanced support from Chinese government funding, China shortened the gap in underwater communication and networking technology between the leading counties in the world but still at least five years behind them in both theory research and commercial product development. China needs to keep working hard in all fields of underwater communication including algorithm research, networking protocol design, more lake and sea trials, more application, hardware developing and commercial products developing.

  • Advancement of Synthetic Aperture Sonar Technique

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: Synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) is a technique of high resolution underwater imaging. Synthetic large aperture is formed based on small aperture array and its motion, and high resolution image is hence obtained by means of beam forming for large aperture array. Principle, characteristics, problem and history of SAS are presented in the paper. Recent developments and trend are analyzed as well.

  • Progress and Opportunities of Underwater Transducers in China

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: The research progress of underwater transducers during the past twenty years in China is briefly reviewed, including applications of new functional materials, developments of new concepts and configurations, and innovations of manufacturing techniques. The reviewing placed the main emphasis on four sections: low frequency transducers, high frequency broadband transducers, deep submergence transducers, and vector hydrophones. And the current challenges and opportunities for future research development in this field are also superficially discussed.

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《中国科学院院刊》

Abstract: The advances and prospect of underwater acoustical signal processing and sonar technology in China during last 40 years is introduced, including the theory and experiment of underwater acoustical signal modeling, technique of acoustical field matched, exploration and study of ocean waveguide and internal wave phenomena, information acquisition and processing of acoustical vector field, research work in time/space correlation performance of underwater acoustic channel, extraction and detection technique of radiated noise invariant feature of underwater target, high resolution image sonar technique and anti-interference transmission technology of underwater speech and image. The theoretical study achievement and the application of these technologies produce a series technology innovation in sonar design, such as large aperture linear towed array Sonar for long range signal detection, Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) of high resolution image sonar, high fidelity real time voice communication sonar, passive ranging sonar, acoustic-guided torpedo, and multiple purpose surface and submerged buoy. Some of achievements, which was carried out in past 863 Program in marine area are introduced. The prospect of underwater acoustical signal processing and sonar technology is discussed in this paper, including deep sea acoustics, Arctic acoustics, radiated noise detection of quiet submarine, integrated information acquisition and data fusion technique in the field of underwater-sea surface-space. The special and irreplaceable important role of these technologies in constructing maritime power country is given.

Abstract: The successful development and good application of the deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe (Striver in English) has significantly improved China’s R&D capabilities of technical equipment and the level of independent innovation in manned deep diving, and also made outstanding contributions to accelerating the construction of a maritime power. The 21st century is the “Century of the Ocean”, and the rich resources in the ocean is a precious wealth that supports the sustainable development of mankind. The development and utilization of marine resources has become an inevitable trend in the development of all countries. However, the scientific expedition equipment needs to be more specialized for developing deep sea resources. To this end, this article reviews the development of manned submersibles in various countries around the world, summarizes the working performance and key technology development of current manned submersibles in the world, and also analyzes the current development status of our country’s manned submersibles and their core technologies. It then puts forward suggestions for future development, hoping to provide insights into accelerating the building of a world marine science and technology powerful nation.
