• Scientific and Technological Reasons, Contents and Corresponding Policies of Constructing “Coastal Grass Belt”

    Abstract: Not only the grain rations must be secured absolutely in China, but also the feed grains. However, the limited arable land resource in China determines that grass planting shall not “compete for land with staple food”. Planting high quality salt-tolerant forage grass on the saline wasteland and developing animal husbandry production can not only meet the demand of increasing proportion of animal protein in Chinese diet structure, but more importantly, it can help to solve the problems of insufficient forage planting and import over-dependence. Hence it plays an important role in guaranteeing national food security. Therefore, it is necessary to use modern biological seed industry technology to accelerate the selection and breeding of salt-tolerant and water-resistant grass varieties, build the supporting system of coastal salt-alkali grass high-yield cultivation technology, and develop high-quality forage and crop straw mixed processing and storage technology to achieve the maximum utilization of biomass resources. The construction of “Coastal Grass Belt” will help to build an ecological barrier in the coastal area, and play an important role in keeping the coastal ecosystem healthy and improving the ecosystem service function.

  • Analysis and Review on Gene Editing

    Abstract: Gene editing technology is a very important bioengineering technology, which is widely used in biomedicine, biological environmental protection, and agricultural production. Based on the analysis of patents and articles related to gene editing, this study reveals the development status and trend of gene editing technology from the following aspects: Patent application and publication of major global institutions, overview of CRISPR technology patents, cooperation among patent inventors in various countries, analysis of technology flow direction, technology composition, and status of main innovation subjects. Countermeasures and suggestions on the original technology innovation, industrialization process, and international collaboration are put forward for researchers and decision makers in the related fields.

  • Study on Green Development Model and Approach of Blue Agriculture in the Yellow River Delta

    Abstract: The Yellow River Delta is located on the west coast of the Bohai Sea. It is one of the regions with the most active interaction between land and ocean, and one of the three major estuary deltas in China. This region has the most complete, the most extensive, the youngest wetland ecosystem and abundant biological resources in China’s warm zone. It plays an important role in regulating the climate, reducing exogenous pollution, restoring amphibious ecological ecotone, and other functions. In recent years, with the rapid development of the Yellow River Delta region, problems such as the continuous reduction of inflow seawater and sediment, the serious shrinkage of wetland areas, and the invasion of Spartina alterniflora Loisel, have become increasingly prominent. On the basis of summarizing and analyzing the development status of this region, we proposed four development concepts: ecological protection priority, adapt to local water conditions, deep integration of multiple elements, and reasonable spatial layout, then, suggested four development models: ecological farm and ranch, integrated development of fishery and tourism, integrated development of fishery and energy industry, and linkage of three kinds of industrial models, with a view to achieving green development of blue agriculture in the Yellow River Delta.

  • Research Advances and Prospects for Fish Genetic Breeding

    Abstract: Rapid advances in molecular basis and genetic improvement of economically important traits in fish have led to flourishing development of aquatic seed industry. Based on analyzing the origin, development, and status of fish genetic breeding in China, we mainly summarize recent progresses on complete genome sequencing, identification of molecular modules controlling complex traits including sex control, disease resistance, hypoxia tolerance, and feed efficient utilization, and breeding of a new allogynogenetic gibel carp variety supported by the Strategic Priority Program “Innovative System of Designer Breeding by Molecular Modules”. Moreover, we highlight the future perspectives in modern aquatic seed industry for intensive and ecological aquaculture.
