  • An Ap star catalog based on LAMOST DR9

    摘要: We present a sample of 2700 Ap stars in LAMOST DR9. The candidates are first selected to be in a temperature range typical of Ap stars by using the $BP$-$RP$ color index from Gaia DR3. Then the 5200\,\AA\ flux depression features characteristic of Ap stars are visually checked in LAMOST DR9 spectra. The detailed spectral features are given by applying a modified spectral classification program, MKCLASS. Stellar parameters of these Ap stars such as $T_{\rm eff}$, $\log g$, [Fe/H], [Si/H], and $v{\sin}i$ are either extracted from a hot star catalog or derived through empirical relations and then a statistical analysis is carried out. The evolutionary stages are also discussed. Finally, we discuss the rotation and pulsation features of those who have TESS or Kepler light curves. Among these Ap stars we find 7 new rotation variables, 1 new roAp star, and new $\delta$ Scuti pulsation of a previously known roAp star.

  • Further evidence of shocks in the first-overtone RR Lyrae pulsators: first detection of shock-triggered magnesium emissions

    摘要: The behavior of the shock wave in the atmosphere of the non-fundamental mode RR Lyrae pulsator remains a mystery. In this work, we firstly report a blueshifted Mg triplet emission in continuous spectroscopic observations for a non-Blazhko RRc pulsator (Catalina-1104058050978) with LAMOST medium resolution spectra. We analyse the photometric observations from Catalina Sky Survey of this RRc pulsator with pre-whitening sequence method and provide the ephemeris and phases. An additional frequency signal with $P_1/P_x = 0.69841$ is detected and discussed. The redshift and radial velocity of the spectra are provided by fitting process with $S\acute{e}rsic$ functions and cross-correlation method. Moreover, we plot the variation of H$\alpha$ and Mg lines in a system comoving with the pulsation. Clear evolution of comoving blueshifted hydrogen and Mg emission is observed, which further confirms the existence of shock waves in RRc pulsators. The shock-triggered emission lasts over $15\%$ of the pulsation cycle, which is much longer than the previous observations.

  • Beyond spectroscopy. I. Metallicities, distances, and age estimates for over twenty million stars from SMSS DR2 and Gaia EDR3

    摘要: Accurate determinations of stellar parameters and distances for large complete samples of stars are keys for conducting detailed studies of the formation and evolution of our Galaxy. Here we present stellar atmospheric parameters ($T_{\rm eff}$, luminosity classifications, and [Fe/H]) estimates for some 24 million stars determined from the stellar colors of SMSS DR2 and Gaia EDR3, based on training datasets with available spectroscopic measurements from previous high/medium/low-resolution spectroscopic surveys. The number of stars with photometric-metallicity estimates is 4-5 times larger than that collected by the current largest spectroscopic survey to date - LAMOST - over the course of the past decade. External checks indicate that the precision of the photometric-metallicity estimates are quite high, comparable to or slightly better than that derived from spectroscopy, with typical values around 0.05-0.15dex for both dwarf and giant stars with [Fe/H]>$-$1.0, 0.10-0.20dex for giant stars with $-$2.0<[Fe/H]<$-$1.0. and 0.20-0.25dex for giant stars with [Fe/H]<$-$2.0, and include estimates for stars as metal-poor as [Fe/H]~$-$3.5, substantially lower than previous photometric techniques. Photometric-metallicity estimates are obtained for an unprecedented number of metal-poor stars, including a total of over three million metal-poor (MP; [Fe/H] <$-$1.0) stars, over half a million very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H]<$-$2.0) stars, and over 25,000 extremely metal-poor (EMP; [Fe/H]<$-$3.0) stars. Moreover, distances are determined for over 20 million stars in our sample. For the over 18 million sample stars with accurate Gaia parallaxes, stellar ages are estimated by comparing with theoretical isochrones. Astrometric information is provided for the stars in our catalog, along with radial velocities for ~10% of our sample stars, taken from completed/ongoing large-scale spectroscopic surveys.

  • The value-added catalogue for LAMOST DR8 low-resolution spectra

    摘要: We present a value-added catalog containing stellar parameters estimated from 7.10 million low-resolution spectra for 5.16 million unique stars with spectral signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) higher than 10 obtained by the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Galactic spectroscopic surveys. The catalog presents values of stellar atmospheric parameters (effective temperature $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$, surface gravity $\log g$, metallicity [Fe/H]/[M/H]), $\alpha$-element to metal abundance ratio [$\alpha$/M], carbon and nitrogen to iron abundance ratios [C/Fe] and [N/Fe] and 14 bands' absolute magnitudes deduced from LAMOST spectra using the method of neural network. The spectro-photometric distances of those stars are also provided based on the distance modulus. For stars with spectral SNRs larger than 50, precisions of $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$, $\log g$, [Fe/H], [M/H], [C/Fe], [N/Fe] and [$\alpha$/M] are 85\,K, 0.098\,dex, 0.05\,dex, 0.05\,dex, 0.052\,dex, 0.082\,dex and 0.027\,dex, respectively. The errors of 14 band's absolute magnitudes are 0.16--0.22\,mag for stars with spectral SNRs larger than 50. The spectro-photometric distance is accurate to 8.5\% for stars with spectral SNRs larger than 50, and is more accurate than geometrical distance for stars with distance larger than 2.0\,kpc. Our estimates of [Fe/H] are reliable down to [Fe/H] $\sim -3.5$\,dex, significantly better than previous results. The catalog provide 26,868 unique very metal poor star candidates ([Fe/H] $\leq -2.0$). The catalog would be a valuable data set to study the structure and evolution of the Galaxy, especially the solar-neighbourhood and the outer disc.

  • Discovery of multiple p-mode pulsation frequencies in the roAp star, HD 86181

    摘要: We report the frequency analysis of a known roAp star, HD 86181 (TIC 469246567), with new inferences from TESS data. We derive the rotation frequency to be $\nu_{rot}$ = 0.48753 $\pm$ 0.00001d$^{-1}$. The pulsation frequency spectrum is rich, consisting of two doublets and one quintuplet, which we interpret to be oblique pulsation multiplets from consecutive, high-overtone dipole, quadrupole and dipole modes. The central frequency of the quintuplet is 232.7701d$^{-1}$ (2.694 mHz). The phases of the sidelobes, the pulsation phase modulation, and a spherical harmonic decomposition all show that the quadrupole mode is distorted. Following the oblique pulsator model, we calculate the rotation inclination, i, and magnetic obliquity, $\beta$, of this star, which provide detailed information about the pulsation geometry. The i and $\beta$ derived from the best fit of the pulsation amplitude and phase modulation to a theoretical model, including the magnetic field effect, slightly differ from those calculated for a pure quadrupole, indicating the contributions from l = 4, 6, 8, ... are small. Non-adiabatic models with different envelope convection conditions and physics configurations were considered for this star. It is shown that models with envelope convection almost fully suppressed can explain the excitation at the observed pulsation frequencies.

  • White dwarfs identified in LAMOST Data Release 5

    摘要: In this paper, we report white dwarfs identified in the 5th Data Release of the Large Area Multi-Object fibre Spectroscopic Telescope, including spectral types of DA, DB, DC, DZ, and so on. There are 2 625 DA spectra of 2 281 DA stars, 182 DB spectra of 166 DB stars, 62 DC spectra of 58 DC stars, 36 DZ spectra of 33 DZ stars and many other types identified, in addition to our previous paper (Data Release 2). Among those sources, 393 DA stars and 46 DB stars are new identifications after cross-matching with the literature. In order to select DA candidates, we use the classification result from the LAMOST pipeline, colour-colour cut method and a random forest machine learning method. For DBs, since there is no template for DB in the pipeline model, a random forest machine learning method is chosen to select candidates. All the WD candidates have been visually checked individually. The parameters of effective temperature, surface gravity, mass, and cooling age have been estimated for relatively high signal-to-noise ratio DAs and DBs. The peaks of the DA and DB mass distributions are found to be around 0.62Msun and 0.65Msun, respectively. Finally, the data and method we used to select white dwarf candidates for the second phase of LAMOST survey are also addressed in this paper.

  • Gaia EDR3 Parallax Zero-point Offset based on W Ursae Majoris-type Eclipsing Binaries

    摘要: We independently determine the zero-point offset of the Gaia early Data Release-3 (EDR3) parallaxes based on $\sim 110,000$ W Ursae Majoris (EW)-type eclipsing binary systems. EWs cover almost the entire sky and are characterized by a relatively complete coverage in magnitude and color. They are an excellent proxy for Galactic main-sequence stars. We derive a $W1$-band Period-Luminosity relation with a distance accuracy of $7.4\%$, which we use to anchor the Gaia parallax zero-point. The final, global parallax offsets are $-28.6\pm0.6$ $\mu$as and $-25.4\pm4.0$ $\mu$as (before correction) and $4.2\pm0.5$ $\mu$as and $4.6\pm3.7$ $\mu$as (after correction) for the five- and six-parameter solutions, respectively. The total systematic uncertainty is $1.8$ $\mu$as. The spatial distribution of the parallax offsets shows that the bias in the corrected Gaia EDR3 parallaxes is less than 10 $\mu$as across $40\%$ of the sky. Only $15\%$ of the sky is characterized by a parallax offset greater than 30 $\mu$as. Thus, we have provided independent evidence that the parallax zero-point correction provided by the Gaia team significantly reduces the prevailing bias. Combined with literature data, we find that the overall Gaia EDR3 parallax offsets for Galactic stars are $[-20, -30]$ $\mu$as and 4-10 $\mu$as, respectively, before and after correction. For specific regions, an additional deviation of about 10 $\mu$as is found.

  • A spectroscopic study of blue supergiant stars in Local Group spiral galaxies: Andromeda and Triangulum

    摘要: Low-resolution LAMOST and Keck spectra of blue supergiant stars distributed over the disks of the Local Group spiral galaxies M 31 and M 33 are analyzed to determine stellar effective temperatures, gravities, metallicities, and reddening. Logarithmic metallicities at the center of the galaxies (in solar units) of $0.30\pm0.09$ and $0.11\pm0.04$ and metallicity gradients of $-0.37\pm0.13$ dex/$R_{25}$ and $-0.36\pm0.16$ dex/$R_{25}$ are measured for M 31 and M 33, respectively. For M 33 the 2-dimensional distribution of metallicity indicates a deviation from azimutal symmetry with an off-centre peak. The flux-weighted gravity-luminosity relationship of blue supergiant stars is used to determine a distance modulus of 24.51$\pm$0.13 mag for M 31 and 24.93$\pm$0.07 mag for M 33. For M 31 the flux-weighted gravity--luminosity relationship (FGLR) distance agrees well with other methods. For M 33 the FGLR-based distance is larger than the distances from Cepheids studies but it is in good agreement with work on eclipsing binaries, planetary nebulae , long-period variables, and the tip of the red giant branch.

  • Probing the Galactic halo with RR Lyrae stars $-$ III. The chemical and kinematic properties of the stellar halo

    摘要: Based on a large spectroscopic sample of $\sim$ 4,300 RR Lyrae stars with metallicity, systemic radial velocity and distance measurements, we present a detailed analysis of the chemical and kinematic properties of the Galactic halo. Using this sample, the metallicity distribution function (MDF) as a function of $r$ and the velocity anisotropy parameter $\beta$ profiles (for different metallicity populations) are derived for the stellar halo. Both the chemical and kinematic results suggest that the Galactic halo is composed of two distinct parts, the inner halo and outer halo. The cutoff radius ($\sim$ 30 kpc) is similar to the previous break radius found in the density distribution of the stellar halo. We find that the inner part is dominated by a metal-rich population with extremely radial anisotropy ($\beta \sim 0.9$). These features are in accordance with those of ``{\it Gaia}-Enceladus-Sausage'' (GES) and we attribute this inner halo component as being dominantly composed of stars deposited from this ancient merged satellite. We find that GES probably has a slightly negative metallicity gradient. The metal-poor populations in the inner halo are characterized as a long-tail in MDF with an anisotropy of $\beta \sim 0.5$, which is similar to that of the outer part. The MDF for the outer halo is very broad with several weak peaks and the value of $\beta$ is around 0.5 for all metallicities.

  • Blueshifted hydrogen emission and shock wave of RR Lyrae variables in SDSS and LAMOST

    摘要: Hydrogen emissions of RR Lyrae variables are the imprints of shock waves traveling through their atmospheres. We develop a pattern recognition algorithm, which is then applied to single-epoch spectra of SDSS and LAMOST. These two spectroscopic surveys covered $\sim$ 10,000 photometrically confirmed RR Lyrae stars. We discovered in total 127 RR Lyrae stars with blueshifted Balmer emission feature, including 103 fundamental mode (RRab), 20 first-overtone (RRc), 3 double-mode (RRd), and 1 Blazhko type (temporary classification for RR Lyrae stars with strong Blazhko modulation in Catalina sky survey that cannot be characterized) RR Lyrae variable. This forms the largest database to date of the properties of hydrogen emission in RR Lyrae variables. Based on ZTF DR5, we carried out a detailed light-curve analysis for the Blazhko type RR Lyrae star with hydrogen emission of long-term modulations. We characterize the Blazhko type RR Lyrae star as an RRab and point out a possible Blazhko period. Finally, we set up simulations on mock spectra to test the performance of our algorithm and on the real observational strategy to investigate the occurrence of the "first apparition".

  • LAMOST meets Gaia: The Galactic Open Clusters

    摘要: Open Clusters are born and evolve along the Milky Way plane, on them is imprinted the history of the Galactic disc, including the chemical and dynamical evolution. Chemical and dynamical properties of open clusters can be derived from photometric, spectroscopic, and astrometric data of their member stars. Based on the photometric and astrometric data from the Gaia mission, the membership of stars in more than 2000 Galactic clusters has been identified in the literature. The chemical and kinematical properties, however, are still poorly known for many of these clusters. In synergy with the large spectroscopic survey LAMOST (data release 8) and Gaia (data release 2), we report a new comprehensive catalogue of 386 open clusters. This catalogue has homogeneous parameter determinations of radial velocity, metallicity, and dynamical properties, such as orbit, eccentricity, angular momenta, total energy, and 3D Galactic velocity. These parameters allow the first radial velocity determination and the first spectroscopic [Fe/H] determination for 44 and 137 clusters, respectively. The metallicity distribution of majority clusters shows falling trends in the parameter space of the Galactocentric radius, the total energy, and the Z component of angular momentum -- except for two old groups that show flat tails in their own parameter planes. Cluster populations of ages younger and older than 500 Myrs distribute diversely on the disc. The latter has a spatial consistency with the Galactic disc flare. The 3-D spatial comparison between very young clusters (< 100 Myr) and nearby molecular clouds revealed a wide range of metallicity distribution along the Radcliffe gas cloud wave, indicating a possible inhomogeneous mixing or fast star formation along the wave. This catalogue would serve the community as a useful tool to trace the chemical and dynamical evolution of the Milky Way.
