Abstract： Blast loading induced by shallow-buried explosives is the main threat to an armored vehicle andits occupants. Studying and investigating the underlying mechanism and its influential factors is the pre-requisite and basis for improving the survivability of amored vehicles and ensure the safety of occupants.We present a critical overview on the destruction mechanisms of shallow buried explosives and the corre-sponding measurement methodologies and characterization. First , various research methodologies for blastdynamics are introduced , and factors affecting blast load transmission are summarized and discussed.Then , experimental and simulation methodologies concerning shallow-buried explosive blast loading aresummarized. Finally , future research directions concerning protection against shallow-buried explosives arehighlighted.
