摘要: Ground-based radio observations below 30 MHz are susceptible to the ionosphere of the Earth and the radio frequency interference. Compared with other space mission concepts, making low frequency observations using an interferometer array on lunar orbit is one of the most feasible ones due to a number of technical and economic advantages. Different from traditional interferometer arrays, the interferometer array on lunar orbit faces some complications such as the three-dimensional distribution of baselines and the changing sky blockage by the Moon. Although the brute-force method based on the linear mapping relationship between the visibilities and the sky temperature can produce satisfactory results in general, there are still large residual errors on account of the loss of the edge information. To obtain the full-sky maps with higher accuracy, in this paper we propose a novel imaging method based on reweighted total variation (RTV) for a lunar orbit interferometer array. Meanwhile, a split Bregman iteration method is introduced to optimize the proposed RTV model so as to decrease the computation time. The simulation results show that, compared with the traditional brute-force method, the RTV regularization method can effectively reduce the reconstruction errors and obtain more accurate sky maps, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed method.

摘要: A 1-D interferometric system at 1.4GHz, 6.9GHz, 18.7 GHz and 23.8GHz combined with a scatterometer at 1.26GHz, called microwave imager combined active/passive (MICAP), has been proposed to retrieve sea surface salinity (SSS) and to reduce geophysical errors due to surface roughness and sea surface temperature (SST). The MICAP will be a candidate payload onboard the Ocean Salinity Satellite of China. The sensitivity of active/passive microwave observations to SSS, SST and wind is analyzed and the stability requirement of the instruments is estimated, with the objective of designing an optimized satellite instrument, dedicated to an "all-weather" estimate of the SSS with high accuracy from space.

摘要: We propose and experimentally demonstrate a fiber spectrum analyzer based on a planar waveguide chip butt-coupled with an input fiber and aligned to a standard camera without any free-space optical elements. The chip consists of a single-mode waveguide to connect with the fiber, a beam broadening area, and a waveguide array in which the lengths of the waveguides are designed for both wavelength separation and beam focusing. The facet of the chip is diced open so that the outputs of the array form a near-field emitter. The far field are calculated by the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction integral. We show that the chip can provide a focal depth on the millimeter scale, allowing relaxed alignment to the camera without any fine-positioning stage. Two devices with 120 and 220 waveguides are fabricated on the polymer waveguide platform. The measured spectral width are 0.63 nm and 0.42 nm, respectively. This simple and practical approach may lead to the development of a spectrum analyzer for fiber that is easily mountable to any commercial camera, thereby avoiding the complication for customized detectors as well as electronic circuits afterwards.

摘要: Ground-based observation at frequencies below 30 MHz is hindered by the ionosphere of the Earth and radio frequency interference. To map the sky at these low frequencies, we have proposed the Discovering the Sky at the Longest wavelength mission (DSL, also known as the "Hongmeng" mission, which means "Primordial Universe" in Chinese) concept, which employs a linear array of micro-satellites orbiting the Moon. Such an array can be deployed to the lunar orbit by a single rocket launch, and it can make interferometric observations achieving good angular resolutions despite the small size of the antennas. However, it differs from the conventional ground-based interferometer array or even the previous orbital interferometers in many aspects, new data-processing methods need to be developed. In this work, we make a series of simulations to assess the imaging quality and sensitivity of such an array. We start with an input sky model and a simple orbit model, generate mock interferometric visibilities, and then reconstruct the sky map. We consider various observational effects and practical issues, such as the system noise, antenna response, and Moon blockage. Based on the quality of the recovered image, we quantify the imaging capability of the array for different satellite numbers and array configurations. For the first time, we make practical estimates of the point source sensitivity for such a lunar orbit array, and predict the expected number of detectable sources for the mission. Depending on the radio source number distribution which is still very uncertain at these frequencies, the proposed mission can detect $10^2 \sim 10^4$ sources during its operation.

摘要: Accreting protoplanets enable the direct characterization of planet formation. As part of a high-contrast imaging search for accreting planets with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Wide Field Camera 3, we present H$\alpha$ images of AB Aurigae (AB Aur), a Herbig Ae/Be star harboring a transition disk. The data were collected in two epochs of direct-imaging observations using the F656N narrow-band filter. After subtracting the point spread function of the primary star, we identify a point-like source located at a P.A. of $182.5^{\circ}\pm1.4^{\circ}$ and a separation of $600\pm22$~mas relative to the host star. The position is consistent with the recently identified protoplanet candidate AB Aur b. The source is visible in two individual epochs separated by ${\sim}50$ days and the H$\alpha$ intensities in the two epochs agree. The H$\alpha$ flux density is $F_{\nu}=1.5\pm0.4$~mJy, $3.2\pm0.9$ times of the optical continuum determined by published HST/STIS photometry. In comparison to PDS 70 b and c, the H$\alpha$ excess emission is weak. The central star is accreting and the stellar H$\alpha$ emission has a similar line-to-continuum ratio as seen in AB Aur b. We conclude that both planetary accretion and scattered stellar light are possible sources of the H$\alpha$ emission, and the H$\alpha$ detection alone does not validate AB Aur b as an accreting protoplanet. Disentangling the origin of the emission will be crucial for probing planet formation in the AB Aur disk.

摘要: We report an Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array 0.88 mm (Band 7) continuum detection of the accretion disk around SR 12 c, an $\sim$11 $M_{\rm Jup}$ planetary-mass companion (PMC) orbiting its host binary at 980 au. This is the first submillimeter detection of a circumplanetary disk around a wide PMC. The disk has a flux density of $127 \pm14~\mu$Jy and is not resolved by the $\sim$0.1" beam, so the dust disk radius is likely less than 5 au and can be much smaller if the dust continuum is optically thick. If, however, the dust emission is optically thin, then the SR 12 c disk has a comparable dust mass to the circumplanetary disk around PDS 70 c but is about five times lower than that of the $\sim$12 $M_{\rm Jup}$ free-floating OTS 44. This suggests that disks around bound and unbound planetary-mass objects can span a wide range of masses. The gas mass estimated with an accretion rate of $10^{-11}~M_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$ implies a gas-to-dust ratio higher than 100. If cloud absorption is not significant, a nondetection of ${}^{12}$CO(3-2) implies a compact gas disk around SR 12 c. Future sensitive observations may detect more PMC disks at 0.88 mm flux densities of $\lesssim$100 $\mu$Jy.

摘要: The orientation between a star's spin axis and a planet's orbital plane provides valuable information about the system's formation and dynamical history. For non-transiting planets at wide separations, true stellar obliquities are challenging to measure, but lower limits on spin-orbit orientations can be determined from the difference between the inclination of the star's rotational axis and the companion's orbital plane ($\Delta i$). We present results of a uniform analysis of rotation periods, stellar inclinations, and obliquities of cool stars (SpT $\gtrsim$ F5) hosting directly imaged planets and brown dwarf companions. As part of this effort, we have acquired new $v \sin i_*$ values for 22 host stars with the high-resolution Tull spectrograph at the Harlan J. Smith telescope. Altogether our sample contains 62 host stars with rotation periods, most of which are newly measured using light curves from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. Among these, 53 stars have inclinations determined from projected rotational and equatorial velocities, and 21 stars predominantly hosting brown dwarfs have constraints on $\Delta i$. Eleven of these (52$^{+10}_{-11}$% of the sample) are likely misaligned, while the remaining ten host stars are consistent with spin-orbit alignment. As an ensemble, the minimum obliquity distribution between 10-250 AU is more consistent with a mixture of isotropic and aligned systems than either extreme scenario alone--pointing to direct cloud collapse, formation within disks bearing primordial alignments and misalignments, or architectures processed by dynamical evolution. This contrasts with stars hosting directly imaged planets, which show a preference for low obliquities. These results reinforce an emerging distinction between the orbits of long-period brown dwarfs and giant planets in terms of their stellar obliquities and orbital eccentricities.

摘要: This paper introduces the first results of observations with the Ultra-Long-Wavelength (ULW) -- Low Frequency Interferometer and Spectrometer (LFIS) on board the selenocentric satellite Longjiang-2. We present a brief description of the satellite and focus on the LFIS payload. The in-orbit commissioning confirmed a reliable operational status of the instrumentation. We also present results of a transition observation, which offers unique measurements on several novel aspects. We estimate the RFI suppression required for such a radio astronomy instrumentation at the Moon distances from Earth to be of the order of 80 dB. We analyse a method of separating Earth- and satellite-originated radio frequency interference (RFI). It is found that the RFI level at frequencies lower than a few MHz is smaller than the receiver noise floor.
