  • Research on Strategies for Enhancing the Influence of Scientific Journals Based on Science of Science Theories

    Abstract: Purposes Based on combing the science of science theories related to scientific journals, this paper constructs a five-force model of the influence of scientific journals and proposes paths and strategies to enhance the influence of scientific journals. Methods Using methods such as literature research, in-depth interviews, and conceptual analysis, the journal influence five-force model is constructed from the aspects of scientific knowledge production, flow, and dissemination, and then countermeasures and suggestions are put forward. Findings It is proposed that the influence of scientific journals includes five aspects: knowledge power, persuasion power, management power, expression power, and dissemination power. These five aspects are used to construct the five-force model of the influence of scientific journals. Conclusions The formation and enhancement of the influence of scientific journals is a systematic project. It can be approached by applying the theory of knowledge activities to enhance the knowledge power of scientific journals; promoting academic exchanges to improve the persuasion power of scientific journals; paying attention to the construction of the talent team to enhance the management power of scientific journals; leveraging the advantages of structural holes to demonstrate the expressive power of scientific journals; fully recognizing the functions of journals to strengthen the dissemination power of scientific journals.

  • Research on Collaborative Development Path and Strategy of Scientific Journal and Preprint Platform

    Abstract: Purposes To explore the collaborative development path of scientific journal and preprint platform, and put forward the collaborative development strategy of scientific journal and preprint platform, so as to provide reference for building a new academic exchange model in the open science era. Methods International representative cases of cooperation between scientific journal and preprint platform were selected, and descriptive case study was used to summarize and sort out the characteristics of existing typical cooperation models, from which the collaborative development path of scientific journal and preprint platform was extracted. Findings The research found that there are three collaborative paths in the cooperation between scientific journal and preprint platform, which are resource collaboration driven by platform development, process collaboration driven by user demand, and goal collaboration driven by open science. Conclusions It is suggested that scientific journal and stakeholders of preprint should fully understand the benefits of collaborative development, continuously strengthen the awareness of collaborative development, formulate collaborative development policies as soon as possible, and jointly build a collaborative development ecology.

  • Research on automatic extraction of technical and function words extraction method of patent based on large model knowledge distillation: A case study in the field of Vehicle to Everything V2X

    Abstract: Objective This paper aims to improve the accuracy of automatic extraction of key technical words and corresponding function words from patent. Methods ChatGPT was used as the Teacher-model, and ChatGLM3 was used as the Student-model. Through knowledge distillation method, the training data generated by ChatGPT was used to fine-tune ChatGLM3, and multiple technical word extraction models and a function word extraction model were obtained. The technical words are extracted from the abstract, the first claim and the technical function paragraph, respectively, by using multiple technical word extraction models, and the function words are extracted from the technical function paragraph by using the function words extraction model. Results Compared with ChatGPT, the fine-tuned multiple technical word extraction models and function word extraction model show higher accuracy and lower recall rate, when extracting technical words and function words. The ChatGLM3 fine-tuning model of the first claim has the highest accuracy and F1 values of 0.734 and 0.724 respectively. Moreover, The accuracy of the function words extracted by the function word extraction model is 0.649, which is higher than the accuracy of the function words labeled by the commercial tool, which is is 0.53. Limitations The technical field and patent language of this research are single, the amount of patent verification data is small, and the data cleaning rules expect to be further optimized. Conclusions This research scheme improves the efficiency accuracy of automatic extraction of large language model through knowledge distillation operation. At the same time, this study can support the mining of cutting-edge innovative and hot technologies from patent texts, and support higher quality intelligent patent analysis.

  • Comparative Analysis and Insights from Open Science Practices of Foreign Academic Publishing Institutions

    Abstract: Purposes This study investigates the specific practices of open science engagement by foreign academic publishing organizations, aiming to provide reference points for the open construction of academic publishing in China. Methods Through internet research and literature review, the publishing practices of ten international academic publishing institutions were analyzed, focusing on their practices and open models in scientific journals, scholarly monographs, scientific data, and peer review. Findings The predominant publishing model among these institutions is gold open access, although the proportion of open resources varies. The financial operations for open publishing revolve around article processing charges, with innovative explorations in sustainable open publishing seen in collective payments and crowdfunding. Flexible open policies have been progressively implemented to synchronize the open access of ancillary research outcomes such as scientific data and peer review reports, thus enriching the academic exchange ecosystem. These institutions have also leveraged resource platforms to integrate a variety of open resources, facilitating user access and utilization. Conclusions Chinese academic publishing institutions should adapt to the trajectory of open science development, restructure publishing operations, deepen the open publishing of journals, and expand the openness of diverse forms of research outputs. There should be a focus on author-centered service models to meet the open publishing demands of authors. The construction of inter-departmental open collaboration networks that integrate content, funding, publishing services, and resource platforms is recommended to enhance the collective efficacy of open publishing.
     

  • Assessing and thoughts on the quality and communication effect of video abstracts based on audience perspective——taking Chinese Polymer video abstracts as an example

    Abstract: Abstract: Purposes  This paper aims to discuss the strategy for the construction of video abstracts of domestic academic journals by investigating the target audience's recognition of video abstracts and their evaluation of the quality and dissemination effects of video abstracts. Methods  Combining with the practice of "Chinese Polymer" video abstracts, a questionnaire survey on the media format, dissemination advantages, production intention, content elements and video evaluation, was conducted with researchers in the field of polymer as the research target, and the results were analyzed. Findings  The target audiences have a high expectation on the communication effect of the video abstracts, but the advantages of the video abstracts of " Chinese Polymer" have not been maximized, and there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of content and presentation. Conclusions  It is suggested that journals should be strengthened from three aspects: producing video abstracts from audience needs, extending the content appropriately to increase academic content, and enriching the presentation of video abstracts to improve interest; increasing the frequency of promotion, broadening the breadth of publicity, and customizing the production of video abstracts for different platforms; making good use of artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency of video abstracts dissemination.
     

  • Research on Relationship Between Scholars’ Scientific Research Cooperation and Interdisciplinarity Based on Social Network——Taking Scholars in Astrophysics as an Example

    Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] The study explored the relationship between scholars’ scientific research cooperation and interdisciplinarity, in order to provide suggestions for scholars engaged in interdisciplinary research to improve their own cooperation modes, and evidence for optimizing cooperation strategies in the process of cultivating interdisciplinary talents. [Method/Process] Scholars are selected according to Price core author distribution theory. Based on Web of Science data, the study constructed the cooccurrence network of authors, used node degree centrality to measure the scale of cooperation, node clustering coefficient to measure the group cooperation rate, and proportion of international cooperation papers to measure the international cooperation rate; measured interdisciplinarity of scholars based on Rao-stirling. From the individual level, analyzed the relationship between scientific research cooperation and interdisciplinarity. [Result/ Conclusion] Taking scholars in astrophysics as an example, the study found that the cooperation scale, group and international cooperation rate of scholars are significantly positively correlated with their interdisciplinarity. They are the factors that affect scholars’ interdisciplinarity. And then infer that expansion of cooperation scale, participating in teamwork and international cooperation will all help them absorb more interdisciplinary knowledge, improve knowledge structure, and produce high-quality researches.

  • Comparative Study on ChatGPT Generation and Scholars Writing of Literature Abstracts: Taking the Field of Information Resource Management as an Example

    Abstract: Purpose/Significance Explore the similarities and differences between ChatGPT generation and Chinese paper abstracts written by scholars, and analyze the differences in content characteristics between the two, providing reference for AI generated academic paper detection and related research.  Method/Process Firstly, taking the field of information resource management as an example, we extracted 500 highly cited papers from library science, information science, and archival science in the past three years. Based on the obtained paper titles, we used the Prompt method to apply the ChatGPT tool to generate corresponding abstract texts and construct a dataset; Secondly, 9 machine learning and deep learning algorithms were used to classify and detect abstract texts generated by ChatGPT and written by scholars; Finally, analyze the similarities and differences between the two from multiple perspectives, including text features, topic models, and ROUGE evaluation, in order to reveal the similarities and differences between the two. Result/Conclusion Mainstream machine learning and deep learning algorithms trained on datasets can effectively distinguish whether abstracts are generated by AI or written by scholars, with BERT and ERNIE performing the best, while RF and Xgboost perform the best among machine learning algorithms. The number of abstract characters and sentences generated by ChatGPT is higher than that written by scholars, and the keywords are mostly template based transitional words; The themes of the two texts are mostly the same, but there are differences in themes such as "disciplinary system" and "digital humanities"; The quantitative analysis of ROUGE and cosine similarity indicates that the abstracts generated by ChatGPT have a significant "resemblance" rather than a "resemblance" to the abstract texts written by scholars.
     

  • Research on the subject attribute and construction mode of digital humanity center

    Abstract: [Objective/Significance] Due to the interdisciplinary, liberal arts and science compatibility of digital humanities, the attributes and construction modes of digital humanities center construction also show diversity, and summarize the institutional structure characteristics of digital humanities centers at home and abroad, so as to provide a comparative reference for the development of digital humanities in China. [Method/Process] This paper adopts network research and case analysis methods to investigate the construction status of digital humanities centers at home and abroad, analyze the current institutional mechanism of digital humanities centers, summarize the social attributes, disciplinary attributes and construction modes of the construction subjects, and combine the disciplinary boundary expansion brought by the name change of the first-level discipline from "Library, Information and Archives Management" to "Information resource management". Explore the new connotation of information resource management discipline participating in the construction of digital humanities center. [Result/Conclusion] The results show that the social attributes of the construction subjects of digital humanities centers at home and abroad include public organizations, social organizations, self-established organizations and composite organizations; The subject attributes include humanities, computer, information resource management and library. There are three construction modes: self-construction mode, co-construction mode and compound mode.

  • The Bottleneck Techniques: Concept, Features, and Influencing Factors

    Abstract: Purpose/Significance This study aims to investigate the concept, features, and influencing factors of the bottleneck techniques in response to the research and development demands. It employs research papers and news interviews to construct an influencing factors model that facilitates the path planning for advancements in this technique. Methods/Process The "genus-differentia" method is employed to define the bottleneck techniques and provide a comprehensive summary of its distinctive features. By considering the formation of influencing factors for the bottleneck techniques as the research question, the encoding method of grounded theory is applied to analyze textual corpus related to this technique, resulting in the development of an influencing factors model. Results/Conclusion The bottleneck technique is an industrially strategic technology at the current stage, deliberately chosen by innovative entities, characterized by originality, strategic importance, and substantial investment. The findings of grounded theory encoding categorize the influencing factors for the formation of the chokehold technique into five levels: industrial differentiation, competitive game, innovation system, production factors, and production transformation. External influencing factors include industrial differentiation as the foundational basis for competitive game. Internal influencing factors encompass the innovation system, production factors, and production transformation, with interactive relationships observed among them. The comprehensive understanding of the bottleneck technique’s concept, features, and influencing factors enables a more informed approach towards planning breakthroughs in this field. The identified influencing factors at different levels shed light on the industrial dynamics, competitive dynamics, and internal factors that contribute to the formation of the chokehold technique.

  • The Study on the Contribution of COVID-19 Papers to Journal Impact Factors

    Abstract: Abstract: Purposes  To explore the impact of COVID-19 papers on journal impact factors, so as to deepen the understanding of the essential characteristics of this index, help to provide suggestions for the improvement of the influence of Chinese journals and also provide a reference for the rational evaluation of Sci-tech journals. Methods In view of the inflationary growth of journal impact factors based on Journal Citation Reports 2022,about 3.64 million publications and 18.64 million citations of 11,000 journals indexed by SCIE and SSCI were obtained, and about 33,000 COVID-19 papers are identified. The relationship between the contribution rate of COVID-19 papers and the increase of journal impact factor, and explore the contribution of COVID-19 papers to different divisions, subject areas and the impact factor of Chinese journals. Findings COVID-19 publications have positive effects on JIF in 87% journals, and have a contribution of 31.14% to the increasement of JIF. And the higher the JCR quartile of the journal, the greater the contribution. This effect is not limited to clinical medicine journals. China’s scientific journals have shown a large growth in JIF with 20.51% can be attributed to COVID-19 publications. Conclusions “Covidization” of scientific research has contributed to the increase in the impact factor of most journals. In face of such major public health emergencies, Chinese journals should seize research frontiers and hotspots, enhance emergency publishing capabilities, and improve academic influence and brand recognition. At the same time, more robust indicators and more fine-grained classification systems should be explored to meet the great challenges brought by such emergencies to the scientific research evaluation system.

  • Research Process Multiple Evaluation System and Incentive Mechanism: A Key Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences as an Example

    Abstract: Objective Reform of scientific research evaluation has made phased progress, but issues still exist, such as the lack of innovative evaluation methods and an incomplete evaluation system. Methods To address these issues, this study, based on existing scientific research evaluation and incentive systems, designs a diversified evaluation system for the research process using the ICDP method, and establishes a corresponding platform for diversified evaluation of the research process. Results Taking a key laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as a case, this paper elaborates on the index system architecture of the chemical engineering discipline and demonstrates the calculation process of overall evaluation and participant evaluation. Limitations The evaluation system described in this study takes into account the characteristics of the subject being assessed and adopts a combination of subjective and objective evaluations. It may be applicable to disciplines similar to this one. Other disciplines can refer to the principles of evaluation system design and design an evaluation system that suits the characteristics of their discipline. Conclusions A diversified evaluation and incentive system for the research process, characterized by information storage and recording at key nodes, can effectively solve prominent issues in the reform of scientific research, and is conducive to the sustainable development of the scientific research process ecosystem.

    Abstract: Taking the country's promotion of the establishment of a discourse system of philosophy and social sciences as the main research background, this paper explores the impact of the renaming of the first-level discipline of library information and archives management on the construction of the discourse system of the discipline. Through literature research and corpus analysis, this paper clarifies the basic meaning and transformation relationship of core concepts such as discourse system, sorts out the current situation of the discourse system of information resource management discipline, analyzes the existing deficiencies, and then discusses the basic structure of the discourse system construction of information resource management discipline with the build path.

  • Analysis of domain topic evolution path based on multi-source data

    Abstract: Purpose/significance In order to comprehensively, objectively, efficiently and intuitively grasp the development law and evolution trend of domain topics, this paper proposes a framework for identifying and analyzing the evolution path of domain topics based on multi-source data. Method/Process Acquire scientific and technological literature data from different sources, use multi-dimensional ordered sample clustering method to assist temporal slicing, enhance the LDA model topic identification effect based on an improved word packet construction method, utilize Louvain Community Detection Algorithm for fusion of multi-source data at the topic level, and analyze domain topic evolution path. Results/Conclusion The empirical study in terahertz research field in the United States was conducted using the data from three sources about Fund project, the paper and the patent. The results show different sources are clearly divided into four unique development stages, and the improved word-bag construction method could represent more accurate domain information, and simplified topic communities can help extract evolution paths from complex networks.

  • A Preliminary Investigation of Corresponding Author Patterns in International Research Collaboration

    Abstract: [Objective] International research collaboration plays an increasingly important role in scientific research, and the corresponding author, as a key organizer and quality controller of research outputs, is one of the main contributors. This study aims to explore the corresponding author patterns in international research collaboration based on internationally co-authored papers. [Methods] Using the Web of Science database as the data source, this study employs scientometrics methods and analyzes international co-authored papers to reveal the characteristics of corresponding author patterns in international collaboration in terms of author type and research output quality. This provides data references for understanding China's role in international research collaboration and finding potential partners. [Results] The findings indicate that developing countries such as China and Iran have relatively high corresponding author rates. The global corresponding author type is dominated by single corresponding author papers, accounting for more than 75%. Developing countries like Brazil and Iran have higher proportions of single corresponding author papers, while countries such as South Africa, Egypt, and Russia have lower proportions. Developed countries with advanced technology, such as Europe and the United States, have higher proportions of single corresponding author papers. There are significant differences in the structure of journal papers of different quality among single corresponding author papers. Technologically advanced countries such as Europe and the United States have a higher proportion of single corresponding author papers in high-quality journals. When collaborating with technologically advanced countries like Europe and the United States, China mainly assumes the role of corresponding author in journals of average quality. However, when collaborating with developing countries such as Pakistan and Russia, China mainly assumes the role of corresponding author in higher-quality journals. [Limitations] This study reveals the patterns of corresponding authors at a macro level but does not delve into the underlying mechanisms. Future research can further investigate the characteristics and evolution of corresponding authors from the perspectives of author attributes, research fields, research evaluation systems, and international collaboration. [Conclusion] The findings of this study expand the research perspective on international collaboration, help to clarify the phenomenon of corresponding authors, and contribute to understanding the role of Chinese scholars in international research collaboration.

  • The Influence of ChatGPT on Scientific Research and Library & Information Service

    Abstract: ChatGPT is a dialogue system developed by OpenAI company. It appears as a Chatbot, but in essence, it uses Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) technology to produce answers. Its key foundation is Generative Pre-trained Transformer and the core technology is InstructGPT. When compared to similar products in the early stages, its main characteristic is that there is a significant decrease in making up facts and generating toxic content. We present a systematic investigation of the technical structure, relevant research and practice, and applications scenarios of ChatGPT. Based on the investigation, we analyze the inspiration from the rapid development of AI technology as well as the influence of ChatGPT on Scientific Research and Library & Information Service. According to these influence, we present eight suggestions for the Library & Information Service field. Overall, the field should find its distinctive value orientation in the AI era, not only by maintaining the conventional scientific research paradigm, but also by exploring new technologies to boost scientific research.

  • Investigation and enlightenment on academic quality control methods of international preprint platforms with the participation of volunteers -- taking arXiv and RePEc platforms as examples

    Abstract: [Purposes] To explore the role and function of volunteers in the academic quality control of preprint platforms, and to provide a reference for the construction of preprint platforms in China. [Methods] Using a web-based survey and case study method, we investigated and summarized the current situation of volunteer mechanism development in more than ten internationally renowned preprint platforms. Based on the research results, the most representative arXiv and RePEc were selected as research objects, and the impact of the infrastructure and organizational functions of the volunteer mechanism on the academic quality control of preprint platforms was analyzed in depth. [Findings] The maturity of the volunteer mechanism of the international preprint platform varies greatly; The current volunteer mechanism of arXiv and RePEc has the structure of volunteer work mechanism with clear rights and responsibilities, and the diversified academic quality control function of volunteers' deep participation, but the types of roles played by volunteers on the two platforms are different. [Conclusions] Volunteers are an important part of the quality control system of preprint platforms. China's preprint platform should widely recruit volunteers, gradually establish and improve the volunteer mechanism; optimize the volunteer mechanism structure and clarify the volunteer work functions; draw on international experience to enrich the academic quality control functions under the participation of volunteers.

  • Investigation and Enlightenment of Rights and Interests of Key Participants in the Preprinted Scholarly Communication System

    Abstract: [Objective] To study the respective rights and interests of key participants in the preprint scholarly communication system and put forward suggestions for the construction of the preprint scholarly communication system in China. [Methods] Based on the rights and interests policies of six preprint platforms, arXiv, bioRxiv, ChemRxiv, Research Square, SSRN and F1000research, related scientific journals and funding programs, the paper analyzes and sorts out the main rights and interests of preprint authors, preprint platforms, preprint readers, scientific journals and preprint funders, and proposes suggestions for building a preprint scholarly communication system in China. [Results] The paper summarizes seven rights and interests owned by preprint authors, four rights and interests owned by preprint platforms, four rights and interests owned by preprint readers, three rights and interests owned by scientific journals, and two rights and interests owned by preprint funders. [Conclusions] The following four points should be noted in the construction of China's preprint scholarly communication system: attaching great importance to the formulation and display of rights and interests policies in the construction of China's preprint platform, promoting cooperation between scientific journals and preprint platforms on the basis of a reasonable division of their rights and interests, strengthening the formulation and display of preprint rights and interests policies by funders, and improving the knowledge of our researchers about the rights and interests norms of preprint scholarly communication.

  • Main Innovative Functions of Current International Preprint Platform

    Abstract: Purposes To analyze the functional innovation and future development direction of the current international preprint platform, and to provide advice for the development of Chinese preprint platform. 
    Methods Summarizing and sorting out the functional innovations of the international preprint platform in the areas of innovative community cooperation, assessment and evaluation, editing services and review methods, then analyzing the innovative service practice functions introduced by each platform in comparison with the conventional functions
    Findings The five functional innovations of the current international preprint platform are: building innovative cooperation community model, integrating multi-party academic communication and discussion window, serving authors to improve their papers, promoting open review of papers, and providing scientific evaluation.
    Conclusions This paper summarizes and analyzes the current trend of functional innovation of international preprint platforms and provides suggestions for the functional development and construction of preprint platforms in China. Further enhance the role of preprints in Chinese academic communication.

  • Research on Cognition and Use of preprint server by Chinese Researchers

    Abstract: 目的/意义 当前全球学术交流模式发生深刻变革,我国正积极探索预印本平台建设路径,需要深入了解和掌握我国科研人员对预印本平台的认知与使用情况。 方法/过程 面向全国科研人员(包括研究生)开展问卷调查,调查内容包括科研人员对预印本及预印本平台的认知程度,对预印本平台的功能需求与使用情况,对预印本政策的需求建议等三个层面,并从概况、年龄、角色、学科等多个维度对调查结果进行分析。 结果/结论 我国科研人员对于预印本交流已有一定程度的认知,但总体认知水平还并不高。不同年龄和学科背景的科研人员使用预印本平台的行为有一定差异,国外预印本平台是目前我国科研人员的首选。我国科研人员普遍认为,制定预印本政策对促进我国预印本交流、预印本平台发展有重要意义。我国预印本平台建设应重视提升青年科研人员认知、关注用户需求差异性、完善平台功能、构建多层级的预印本政策体系。
