• Progress of photonuclear cross-sections for medical radioisotope production at the SLEGS energy domain

    摘要: Photonuclear reactions using a laser Compton scattering (LCS) gamma source provide a new method forproducing radioisotopes for medical applications. Compared with the conventional method, this method has theadvantages of a high specific activity and less heat. Initiated by the Shanghai Laser Electron Gamma Source(SLEGS), we conducted a survey of potential photonuclear reactions, (, n), (, p), and (, ) whose cross#2;sections can be measured at SLEGS by summarizing the experimental progress. In general, the data are rareand occasionally inconsistent. Therefore, theoretical calculations are often used to evaluate the production ofmedical radioisotopes. Subsequently, we verified the model uncertainties of the widely used reaction codeTALYS-1.96, using the experimental data of the 100Mo(, n) 99Mo, 65Cu(, n) 64Cu, and 68Zn(, p) 67Cu reac#2;tions.

  • GPU-based cross-platform Monte Carlo proton dose calculation engine in the framework of Taichi

    摘要: In recent years, graphics processing units (GPUs) have been applied to accelerate Monte Carlo (MC) simulations for proton dose calculation in radiotherapy. Nonetheless, current GPU platforms, such as CUDA and OpenCL, suffer from cross-platform limitation or relatively high programming barrier. However, the Taichi toolkit, which was developed to overcome these difficulties, has been successfully applied to high-performance numerical computations. Based on the class II condensed history simulation scheme with various proton-nucleus interactions, we developed a proton MC transport GPU-accelerated engine using the Taichi toolkit. Dose distributions in homogeneous and heterogeneous materials were calculated for 110, 160, and 200 MeV protons and were compared with those obtained by full MC simulations using Topas. The gamma passing rates were greater than 0.99 and 0.95 with criteria of 2 mm, 2% and 1 mm, 1%, respectively, in all the tested conditions. Moreover, the calculation speed was at least 5800 times faster than that of Topas, and the number of lines of code was approximately 10 times lesser than those of CUDA or OpenCL. Our study provides a highly accurate, efficient, and easy-to-use proton dose calculation engine for algorithm developers, students, and medical physicists.

  • Theoretical uncertainties of (d,3He) and (3He,d) reactions due to the uncertainties of optical model potentials

    摘要: Theoretical uncertainties of single proton transfer cross sections of the (3He,d) and (d,3He) reactionsdue to the uncertainties of the entrance- and exit-channel optical model potentials are examined with the30Si(3He,d)31P, 13B(d,3He)12Be, and 34S(3He,d)35Cl reactions at incident energies of 25 MeV, 46 MeV, and25 MeV, respectively within the framework of distorted wave Born approximation. Differential cross sectionsat the first peaks in the angular distributions of these reactions are found to be uncertain within around 5% dueto the uncertainties of the optical model potentials from an result of 20000 times of calculations with the opticalpotential parameters randomly sampled. This amount of uncertainties is found to be nearly independent of theangular momentum transfer and the target masses within the studied range of incident energies. Uncertaintiesof the single proton spectroscopic factors obtained by matching the theoretical and experimental cross sectionsat different scattering angles are also discussed.
