  • The Re-validation of the Logistic Diffusion Model Applying for the Growing Pattern of Patent Forward Citations

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The patent citation is a kind of behavior that can reveal the pattern of technology diffusion. It is an important research tool to infer the technology diffusion behavior by using the patent forward citations. [Method/process] In this study, we fit the cumulative forward citations to the Logistic model again for Graphene sensor with the optimized experiment method. We analyzed and discussed the differences of the methods and results with the previous two studies, which were held by Hosein Fallah and Elliot Fishman in 2009 and Zhang Xiaoqiang et al. in 2014. [Result/conclusion] It is re-verified that the patent forward citations infer the model of technology diffusion. And a further hypothesis based on the previous studies that the pattern of the forward citations of all the patents within a certain technical field follows the Logistic diffusion model is further confirmed.

  • A Review of the Main Recognition Methods of Frontier Research

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper summarized the advantages and disadvantages of various recognition methods of frontier researches by comparing and analyzing these methods, and suggested improvements for future researches.[Method/process] Firstly, it reviewed the literatures related to research frontiers at home and abroad, and identified relevant concepts of the research frontier. Then, the paper analyzed the main exsited research methods for the identification of research frontiers. Comparing with the traditional identification methods, this paper emphasized the summary of recognition methods of transformative research frontiers. Finally, this study summarized the main problems existed in the frontier identification methods, and put forward suggestions for improving the research frontier identification methods.[Result/conclusion] In terms of conceptual meanings, this paper distinguished research hotspots, emerging researches and research frontiers in the dimensions of time and innovation. According to the different levels of innovation, research frontiers can be divided into conventional research frontiers and transformative research frontiers. In terms of identification methods, different methods have their own applicable scenes. In the future, it is necessary to further dig out the measurement features of the "research frontier", especially the semantic associations among topics and the fusion of multiple relations should be focused on, as well as the feature mining of the early signs of "transformation research frontier", and then constructing corresponding recognition and prediction methods.

  • Research on Evaluation Methods of Academic Journals Impact

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance]Periodicals' influence evaluation is an important part and application field of scientific metrology research, which is of great significance for optimizing journal quality and promoting scientific exchange.[Method/process]This review summarizes the research progress of influencing evaluation methods of journals at home and abroad. In terms of traditional indicators, the series of influencing factors, index H and derivative indices, PageRank and its derivative indicators, the method of comprehensive evaluation based on multiple factors and the impact of periodicals based on social media, interdisciplinary journal evaluation methods, the characteristics and deficiencies of current evaluation methods are pointed out.[Result/conclusion]The paper finds that the existing evaluation indexes are poorly integrated. The citation skewness and self-citation problems are less considered, and the feasibility of emerging social media-based evaluation methods needs to be discussed. In the future we should pay attention to the in-depth integration of evaluation indicators, the diversification of citations for biased improvement methods, the standardization of evaluation methods for social media journals, and the systematization of cross-disciplinary journal evaluation methods.

  • Study on Analysis Method of Technology Industrialization Potential Based on Multi-source Data——A Case Study of Engineering Vaccine Technology

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Accurate analysis of the industrialization potential of emerging technology is of great significance for investment decisions, patent layout, resource allocation and market development.[Method/process]This paper firstly summarizes the existing evaluation methods of industrialization potential systematically, and then builds a framework of industrialization potential analysis method based on multi-source data, which includes policy environment analysis, industrial technology analysis, market quotation analysis and the fusion interpretation of all. Next, the feasibility and validity of the method are verified by case analysis of the genetic engineering vaccine technology.[Result/conclusion]This method is based on the technical panorama and integrates a variety of data sources, which can make the local characteristics of technology industrialization integrate into the overall characteristics. The multi-dimensional analysis can be mutually confirmed and complement each other to obtain more valuable results of industrialization potential analysis.

  • Research on Core Technology Topic Identification Based on Chunk-LDAvis

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Core technology topic identification based on a large number of patent documents is helpful to detect key technologies in a technical field and to analyze the direction of the development of key technologies. It is the basic information work for technological innovation and has certain significance for researchers, enterprises and even the national level.[Method/process] This paper proposes a core technology topic identification method based on Chunk-LDAvis. Firstly, it is based on the classic LDA model to identify the topics. Then, the noun chunk is used to mark the results of the initial LDA topic identification, and the result of the Chunk-LDA topic recognition is constructed to improve its interpretability. Then based on the social network analysis method, the topic network is constructed to identify the core technical topics; based on the LDAvis toolkit, the interactive Chunk-LDAvis core technology topic association analysis map is plotted, and the hidden links of the core technical topics are found, and the core technology topic detection is assisted.[Result/conclusion] Through the empirical study on the field of nanoscale agriculture, the accuracy and feasibility of the proposed method are verified.

  • Prophet Prediction-Correction Topic Evolution Model——A Case Study in Stem Cell Field

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Topic evolution analysis plays an important role in detection the technology frontier detection and innovation strategy deployment. [Method/process] In this paper, the topic evolution analysis process was divided into several steps: topic representation, similarity correlation and intensity evolution calculation. The LDA model was used to represent the topic; content, co-occurrence, and trend similarity were proposed for topic correlation calculations, and the prophet-based pre-train fine-tuning model was used to predict the topic trends. An empirical analysis was conducted using the stem cell field as an example. [Result/conclusion] Experiments show that the Logistic growth model has a R2Score of more than 0.90 for each topic. It shows that the Logistic growth model in Prophet is consistent with the growth trend of topics, and can fit the evolution trend of the topic intensity. The topic evolution model proposed in this paper has certain reference to topic distribution and evolution analysis in specific fields.

  • Study on Radical Innovation Prediction to Emerging Technology Topics Based on Citation Curve Fitting——Taking the Field of Stem Cells as an Example

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Through the fitting analysis of the citation curves of emerging technology topics, this paper refined and summarized the main types and characteristics of the citation curves, in order to provide a useful reference for the study of prediction methods for radical innovation topics at the micro level.[Method/process] Firstly, the hypothesis of using citation curves to trace the emerging technology topics to produce radical innovation was proposed and the concept and measurement method of the transition index were proposed. The criteria of predicting radical innovation were summarized and the method model of radical innovation identification was constructed from the two dimensions of knowledge transition and continuous growth. Then used the time slices cited data of each emerging technology topic to construct the citation curves, classify and summarize the types and characteristics of citation curves of different emerging technology topics.[Result/conclusion] The citation curves of emerging technology topics includes four types:continuous growth in the near future; continuous decline in the near future; short life cycle; consistent trends in similar years. According to the identification criteria of radical innovation, the citation curves have the potential to become radical innovation if they have many transitions and a large transition range, and the highest citation peak occurs later, and maintains a high citation rate in the near future with a sustained stable or rapid growth. Combined with the assessment of the prediction results by domain experts and the research progress of different emerging technology topics, it is verified that the citation curve fitting analysis can effectively predict the breakthrough of emerging technology topics.

  • Influence of Strong and Weak Ties on Dynamic Link Prediction of Knowledge Diffusion in Disciplinary Citation Networks

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The strong and weak ties is one of the important factors that affect the dynamic link prediction of knowledge diffusion in disciplinary citation networks. The strong and weak citation ties in diffusion of disciplinary knowledge jointly promote knowledge exchange, integration and innovation among disciplines with coordination and mutual effect. The exploration of strong and weak ties in the dynamic link prediction of knowledge diffusion in disciplinary citation networks can provide theoretical and practical references for expanding the application of the strong and weak ties theory, revealing the micro-evolution law of knowledge diffusion behavior of disciplinary citation, and evaluating, designing and optimizing dynamic link prediction algorithm indicators.[Method/process] In this paper, on the basis of synergistic idea, the method of detecting strong and weak ties in the dynamic link prediction was constructed by controlling external structure and analyzing internal evolution mechanism of the networks. To be specific, the influence of strong and weak ties on the dynamic link prediction of knowledge diffusion in disciplinary citation networks based on common neighbor similarity was discussed from three perspectives of adjustment of knowledge connection weight in disciplinary citation networks, link failure triggering and motif analysis.[Result/conclusion] The research has shown that, firstly, strong ties play a more important role in evolution of knowledge diffusion in disciplinary citation networks and dynamic link prediction; secondly, strong and weak ties effect in link prediction is not only related to connection weight of disciplinary citation networks, but affected by the number of common neighbor and micro motif structure; thirdly, compared with the spillover ability of knowledge from source discipline, the absorbing ability of knowledge in destination discipline has a more prominent impact on the process of developing new knowledge links.

  • Key Time-points of Emerging Research Topic on their Evolution Path

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] To explore the different representations of the impact of different key time points on emerging research topics.[Method/process] Firstly, we summarized the application scenarios and acquisition methods of the current turning point time, and constructed the turning point identification method of emerging research topics on the innovation evolution path according to the growth mechanism and characteristics of network nodes in the knowledge diffusion. After that, the differences between "first appearance time" "average time" and "inflection point time" are compared and analysed, and explored the earliest point in time when emerging research topics have an impact. Finally, taking stem cell research topics as an empirical field, we analysed the different representational capabilities of different key time points on the influence of emerging research topics.[Result/conclusion] The turning point time can identify influential topics earlier than the "average time". "First appearance time" "average time" and "inflection point time" have significant differences in the topic evolution path. The determination of the distribution time of emerging research topics in the innovation path requires the synthesis of three different types of key time points.

  • A Review of Early Recognition of Breakthrough Innovations and the Weak Signal Analysis

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper has summarized disadvantages of various recognition methods of breakthrough researches by comparing and analyzing these methods. Then this study has introduced weak signals into the identification of radical innovation, focusing on various types of weak signal (especially weak ties)with a view to achieving early prediction.[Method/process] Firstly, by analyzing the existing recognition methods, this paper summarized the main problems and pointed out the necessity of weak signal research. Then, this study introduced the concept and representation of weak signal from different disciplines summarized the characteristics of weak signal and combed several methods of weak signal identification. Finally, this paper introduced the connotation and application of weak ties, and proposed that the algorithm model that integrates multiple relationships can realize the effective fusion of various weak ties and obtain more clear directional information.[Result/conclusion] In the frontier research, most attention is paid to strong ties such as reference relations between literatures and semantic relations between topic terms. However, weak ties contain more diverse information, and strengthening the analysis of them can enable early recognition of breakthrough research frontier. In the future, it is necessary to seek effective methods to capture weak ties and further dig out the evolution of the theme such as:using high-order network models to analyze weak ties to improve the accuracy of early recognition.
