  • Journal Download Factor: A Composite Indicator of Dissemination, Impact, Knowledge and Information

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Philology submitted time 2024-04-03 Cooperative journals: 《农业图书情报学报》

Abstract: Purpose/Significance The birth of the Internet has brought revolutionary impact on bibliometrics, giving rise to a number of online download indicators for academic literature. The most representative basic indicator among them is the download frequency, but it also includes the annual download rate, the total download volume, the download half-life, and the Google Scholar Index. The proposal of these indicators provides a new method and means of measuring scholarly dissemination and impact, which is a significant development of traditional bibliometrics and an important component of alternative metrics. Given the lack of indicators that comprehensively characterize the dissemination, impact, knowledge and information volume of academic journals, this paper proposes the download factor indicator to address this problem. Method/Process First, according to the changes of download frequency and citation frequency over the years, based on the citation data of CSSCI journals of library information and bibliology on CNKI, a panel data model was used to establish a prediction model of download frequency and citation frequency, and the optimal lag period for designing the download factor was determined. The indicator of download factor was proposed, that is, the average number of downloads per hundred times of each paper after 2 years of publication. This paper further used ridge regression to analyze the relationship between the download factor and the impact factor, h-index, and the number of articles. Results/Conclusions The download frequency with a lag of 1 year and 2 years determines 80% of the citation frequency. This article innovatively adopts a panel data model and comprehensively evaluates the impact of download frequency on citation frequency in both current and lagged periods, thereby greatly improving the prediction accuracy. The download factor can better measure the knowledge information volume, dissemination level, influence and academic quality of the journal. The timeline for downloading factor indicators is synchronized with the influencing factors, both within 2 years after the publication of journal articles, focusing on the evaluation of academic communication level. The download factor has the highest correlation with the main indicator of the impact of journal quality, the h-index, and has a high correlation with the impact factor and publication volume. It has good statistical indicator properties and is a comprehensive indicator for evaluating journals; the download factor index needs to be more inspection of application in disciplines and use of data. This article is based on the conclusions drawn from the research of 19 CSSCI journals in library and information science literature. The relationship between download frequency and citation frequency in other disciplines, as well as the construction of download factors, require further research in conjunction with the latest data.

  • The development status and countermeasures of Chinese Gold OA and Diamond OA journals

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Philology submitted time 2024-01-31

Abstract: Purposes To analyze the characteristics of domestic and abroad Gold OA journals and Diamond OA journals indexed in the DOAJ database, and provide reference for the development of OA in academic journals in China. Methods This study retrieved and analyzed the subject classification, language, CC license, peer review strategy, publication status, and other characteristics of global and domestic Gold OA journals and Diamond OA journals indexed in DOAJ for statistical analysis. Besides, this study analyzed the publication status and awareness of OA in domestic journals through a questionnaire survey. Finally, summarized the OA development strategies. Findings Among the 20015 OA journals indexed in DOAJ, English journals accounted for the vast majority (16111 journals). Among them, 66.26% were Diamond OA journals that mainly focused on social science. The distribution of CC license types is mainly concentrated in CC BY, followed by CC BY-NC and CC BY-NC-ND, and the types of peer review strategy were relatively scattered. DOAJ only indexed 318 Chinese journals up to now, which was different from the global journals index in DOAJ: English journals slightly outnumbered Chinese journals, with a higher proportion of Gold OA (65.41%), which were mainly focused on scientific, technical and medical (STM) journals. The most commonly used CC license was CC BY-NC-ND (accounting for 72.32%), with single blind and double-blind peer review as the main peer review methods. The questionnaire survey results showed that many domestic journals were not very familiar with the DOAJ database at present, and the proportion of Chinese journals included in the DOAJ database is still relatively small among the journals with the actual publication mode of OA. The OA models adopted by domestic journals mainly on Bronze OA; The journals selected for the "Excellent Action Plan for Chinese STM Journals" and newly established English journals mostly adopt the Diamond OA model. Conclusions At present, the proportion of Gold OA and Diamond OA journals in China is relatively small, while, the Bronze OA journals account for the highest proportion in China along with insufficient clear OA declarations and copyright agreements compared with Gold OA and Diamond OA journals. Clear regulations on the retention and transfer of copyright, as well as strict implementation of the CC agreement could help OA journals regulate the scope of rights and obligations of all users. The Golden OA and Diamond OA models are the development directions of OA journals in China. Referring to the inclusion evaluation criteria of the DOAJ database would be helpful for the OA development of STM journals in China.

  • A Study on the Ranking of Imperial Titles in Qing Dynasty from the Perspective of Data Analysis—Knowledge Discovery Based on the Examples of the Imperial Qing Festival

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Philology submitted time 2023-03-24

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] The members of the imperial clan in the Qing Dynasty were a group with blood relationship with the emperor, which constituted the core of the power of the Qing Dynasty. This study analyzed the rank and path iteration of the imperial clan titles, in order to enrich the research results of the imperial clan titles in the Qing Dynasty, and provide reference for subsequent scholars to further analyze the titles system and conduct other related research. [Methods/Process] This study used quantitative analysis methods to mark and statistically analyze the title roll of Examples of the Imperial Qing Festival, and based on the "Imperial Titles List" in the 13th year of Qianlong's reign, an iterative analysis of the path of the descendants of the imperial clan was carried out. [Results/Conclusion] The research found that the number of content items in the title roll of the Examples of the Imperial Qing Festival showed a decreasing trend from "title rank" to "title". The temporary regulations were mainly concentrated in the Qianlong Dynasty and before, while the specific events were mainly distributed in the Qianlong Dynasty and after. The iterative analysis of the path greatly reflects the importance of the status of descendants in the Qing clan. At the same time, the strict ranking of titles, together with the way of descending and examination, and the way of inheriting titles by generations and specific times, avoid the superfluous titles of the imperial family to some extent which helped maintain the social stability of the Qing Dynasty.

  • 基于WoS的基础学科OA论文的质量评价思路--以物理学科为例

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Philology submitted time 2020-05-28

Abstract: [Purposes] A comprehensive understanding of the degree of open access (OA) of academic journals in physics, and the quality of OA papers. Exploring the quality-evaluation methods based on cited OA papers. [Methods] Using statistical principles and bibliometrics methods, 348 physics journals in web of science (WoS), were studied, according to their number of papers and citation collected within 2 years. A comparison and correlation analysis of 9 indicators of about OA proportion of which including OA paper, OA journals, citation of OA paper, as well as acceptability of OA journals, were carried out for the whole physics discipline and 8 branch areas. [Findings] There are 39 OA journals in the whole discipline, accounting for 11.21% of the total journals. The total opening rate and citation rate of OA papers are 28.37% and 35.95%, respectively. The contribution of OA journals to the opening rate and citation rate is 30% and 23.99%, respectively. The opening percentage of high cited papers is 41.87%, and its contribution percentage for citation is 40.56%. OA papers were cited as 4.35 per paper. In eight branch areas, the intervals of mean value of Journals Acceptability (JA) of their journals and OA journals, are {962,301} and {1032,50} respectively. [Conclusions] Empirical analysis shows that : 1)The majority of OA papers come from hybrid- journals. For condensed matter physic, its OA level is much less than the scale of its journal publish. Regarding the OA tactics of high- cited papers, we did not find that they were priority, neither biased. Therefore, increasing the percentage of open access of high- cited papers can be a strategy to improve the quality of OA. 2) OA ratio of Journals and papers , as well the contribution ratio of OA journals can be used as an evaluation index for the degree of openness. The citation ratio of OA papers, the OA ratio of high cited papers, and the average citation per paper in OA journals can be used as indexes for evaluating the quality of OA. 3) The publication volume (PV)of OA journal and the percentile of the journal’s PV can be used for the journal acceptability analysis. • Definition and evaluationmethod of low-cited papers in science and technologyjournals:A case study of 65 journals of condensed matter physics

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Philology submitted time 2018-09-27

Abstract: " [Purposes ] By analyzing the distribution of citations of papers for academic journals, we present the identification of a less-citation region of each journal and the method of its evaluations. [Methods]By taking SCI Expanded data of 65 condensed matter journals (CMJ) with a period of 5 years, we have systematically studied the features of the citation distribution for each journal, which are made for those papers in h-index core,or with the citation number less than the citation per paper (Cipp) for a given journal. In addition, we also analyze the feature of the citation distributions in the regions where the accumulation citations are respectively five, ten and twenty percent of the total citations T, for a given journal. Based on these analyses, we identify an appropriate and reasonable less-citation region for each journal. [Findings] First, the ratio for zero citation for each journal is very low, about10%T, so that CMJ can be considered as a set of high-quality journals. Secondly, the range for the cumulated number of those less citations equal to 20%T as well as the citations of papers below Cipp can be statistically used together to define as a less-citation region. Third, there is only very weak correlation between the traditional evaluating parameters such as impact factor IF, h-index, Cipp, the total number of the citable papers and the total citation, and the new set of the parameters including rN0, less-citation ration(RLC,rN x)and the density of the less citations(DLC,rTcix). [ Conclusions] Frist, the new set of the parameters Evel {rN0, rNx, rTcix} defines a composite index for the evaluation of less citations, while the composite index Evel {h,Ci20%,Cicipp,Cih} corresponds to the three regions, characterizing the configurations of citation distribution of journals. Secondly, the distribution of citations possibly can be cluster analyzed on configuration. For each journal, the less-citation evaluation should be properly done on the basis of the systematic analyses on the distribution of the citations. Multiple dimensional evaluations can provide reliable global evaluation on each journal.
