Abstract: Evidence has shown that self-control is not only an effort to inhibit impulses, but people also actively promote successful self-control through the application of various self-control strategies. The process model of self-control are considered to include the majority of self-control strategies, but the hypothesis that early strategies are more effective than late ones requires further investigation. In daily life, people usually applies at least one strategy to resist desire, and they also apply different strategies according to different desire types and situations. The effectiveness of strategy used will vary due to individual differences, desire types, situations, and other factors. Future research needs to deeply explore the flexibility and variability of the application of self-control strategies, the mechanism of applying multiple strategies, with a focus on the relationship between self-control strategies and the improvement of self-control ability, and improve intervention research on the application of self-control strategies.
