  • A new microraptorine specimen (Theropoda: Dromaeosauridae) with a brief comment on the evolution of compound bones in theropods

    摘要: Microraptorinae is a recently discovered subgroup of dromaeosaurid theropods, mostly comprising species from the Lower Cretaceous Jehol Group of western Liaoning, China. Here we describe a new microraptorine specimen from the Jiufotang Formation (the upper section of the Jehol Group) of Dapingfang, Chaoyang, Liaoning, which displays interesting morphological features not previously documented within Microraptorinae. Noteworthy are several osteological features, including dental and ischial ones, which are transitional between the condition of Sinornithosaurus and that of Microraptor. These features highlight the existence of a spectrum of morphological variation between Sinornithosaurus, which is more like a typical dromaeosaurid, and Microraptor, which shares many characteristics with troodontids. However, the taxonomic significance of these variations has not to be fully assessed yet. A feature deserving special mention is the fusion of the pubes to the ilia in this specimen, which has implications for the evolution of compound bones in theropods+. Our preliminary analysis suggests that many compound bones in birds have been formed by sequential fusion of multiple elements in a peramorphic process. 小盗龙亚科是驰龙科兽脚类恐龙中新近发现的一个亚群,多数属种产自中国辽宁西部下白垩统热河群。本文描记一件产自辽宁省朝阳县大平房地区九佛堂组(热河群上段)的小盗龙亚科的新标本,该标本具有一些未曾报道过的有趣形态特征。尤其值得关注的是,一些特征呈现出介于中国鸟龙和小盗龙之间的过渡状态,其中部分来自牙齿和坐骨。这些特征突出显示了在更接近典型驰龙类的中国鸟龙和具有许多伤齿龙科特征的小盗龙之间存在着一系列的形态变异。然而,这些变异特征在分类上的意义尚未得到充分评估。特别值得一提的是该标本中相互愈合的耻骨和肠骨,这一特征有助于阐明复合骨在兽脚类恐龙中的演化模式。初步分析显示许多鸟类的复合骨都是通过在过型形成过程中各组分的顺序愈合形成的。

  • Spatially Resolved Moving Radio Burst in Association with an EUV Wave

    摘要: Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are large clouds of magnetized plasma ejected from the Sun, and are often associated with acceleration of electrons that can result in radio emission via various mechanisms. However, the underlying mechanism relating the CMEs and particle acceleration still remains a subject of heated debate. Here, we report multi-instrument radio and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) imaging of a solar eruption event on 24 September 2011. We determine the emission mechanism of a moving radio burst, identify its three-dimensional (3D) location with respect to a rapidly expanding EUV wave, and find evidence for CME shocks that produce quasiperiodic acceleration of electron beams.

  • Quasi-Periodic Pulsations Detected in Ly$\alpha$ and Nonthermal Emissions During Solar Flares

    摘要: We report quasi-periodic pulsations (QPPs) with double periods during three solar flares (viz. SOL2011-Feb-15T01:44, SOL2011-Sep-25T04:31, SOL2012-May-17T01:25). The flare QPPs were observed from light curves in Ly$\alpha$, hard X-ray (HXR) and microwave emissions, with the Ly$\alpha$ emission recorded by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, the HXR emission recorded by the Reuven Ramaty High-Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager and the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor, and the microwave emission recorded by the Nobeyama Radio Polarimeters and Radioheliograph. By using the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, QPPs with double periods of about two minutes and one minute were first found in the Ly$\alpha$ emission. Then using the same method, a QPP with nearly the same period of about two minutes was also found in HXR and microwave emissions. Considering the possible common origin (nonthermal electrons) between Ly$\alpha$ and HXR/microwave emission, we suggest that the two-minute QPP results from the periodic acceleration of nonthermal electrons during magnetic reconnections. The ratio between the double periods in the Ly$\alpha$ emission was found to be close to two, which is consistent with the theoretical expectation between the fundamental and harmonic modes. However, we cannot rule out other possible driving mechanisms for the one-minute QPPs in HXR/microwave emissions due to their relatively large deviations.

  • A Fermi-LAT Study of Globular Cluster Dynamical Evolution in the Milky Way: Millisecond Pulsars as the Probe

    摘要: Using archival Fermi-LAT data with a time span of ∼12 yr, we study the population of Millisecond Pulsars (MSPs) in Globular Clusters (GlCs) and investigate their dependence on cluster dynamical evolution in the Milky Way. We show that the γ-ray luminosity (Lγ) and emissivity (i.e.,= Lγ/M, with M the cluster mass) are good indicators of the population and abundance of MSPs in GlCs, and they are highly dependent on the dynamical evolution history of the host clusters. Specifically speaking, the dynamically older GlCs with more compact structures are more likely to have larger Lγ and , and these trends can be summarized as strong correlations with cluster stellar encounter rate Γ and the specific encounter rate (Λ = Γ/M), with Lγ ∝ Γ0.70±0.11 and ∝ Λ0.73±0.13 for dynamically normal GlCs. However, as GlCs evolve into deep core collapse, these trends are found to be reversed, implying that strong encounters may have lead to the disruption of Low-Mass X-ray Binaries and ejection of MSPs from core-collapsed systems. Besides, the GlCs are found to exhibit larger  with increasing stellar mass function slope (∝ 10(0.57±0.1)α), decreasing tidal radius () and distances from the Galactic Center (GC, ). These correlations indicate that, as GlCs losing kinetic energy and spiral in toward the GC, tidal stripping and mass segregation have a preference in leading to the loss of normal stars from GlCs, while MSPs are more likely to concentrate to cluster center and be deposited into the GC. Moreover, we gauge  of GlCs is ∼10–1000 times larger than the Galactic bulge, the latter is thought to reside thousands of unresolved MSPs and may be responsible for the GC γ-ray excess, which supports that GlCs are generous contributors to the population of MSPs in the GC.

  • Dynamic simulation analysis of molten salt reactor-coupled air-steam combined cycle power generation system

    摘要: Anonlinear dynamic simulation model based on coordinated control of speed and flow rate for the molten salt reactor and combined cycle systems is proposed hereto ensure the coordination and stability between the molten salt reactor and power system. This model considersthe impact of thermal properties of fluid variation on accuracy and has been validated with Simulink. This study reveals the capability of the control system to compensate for anomalous situations and maintain shaft stability in the event of perturbations occurring in high-temperature molten salt tank outlet parameters. Meanwhile, the control system's impact on the system's dynamic characteristicsunder molten salt disturbance is also analyzed. The results reveal that after the disturbance occurs, the controlled systembenefits from the action of the control, and the overshoot and disturbance amplitude are positively correlated while the systempower and frequency eventually return to the initial values. This simulation model provides a basis for utilizing molten salt reactors for power generation and maintaining grid stability.

  • Is there a Dynamic Difference between Stealthy and Standard CMEs?

    摘要: Stealthy Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), lacking low coronal signatures, may result in significant geomagnetic storms. However, the mechanism of stealthy CMEs is still highly debated. In this work, we investigate whether there are differences between the stealthy and standard CMEs in terms of their dynamic behaviors. Seven stealthy and eight standard CMEs with slow speeds are selected. We calculate two-dimensional speed distributions of CMEs based on the cross-correlation method, rather than the unidimensional speed, and further obtain more accurate distributions and evolution of CME mechanical energies. Then we derive the CME driving powers and correlate them with CME parameters (total mass, average speed, and acceleration) for standard and stealthy CMEs. Besides, we study the forces that drive CMEs, namely, the Lorentz force, gravitational force, and drag force due to the ambient solar wind near the Sun. The results reveal that both the standard and stealthy CMEs are propelled by the combined action of those forces in the inner corona. The drag force and gravitational force are comparable with the Lorentz force. However, the impact of the drag and Lorentz forces on the global evolution of the stealthy CMEs is significantly weaker than that of the standard CMEs.

  • Modeling and analyzing supply-demand relationships of water resources in Xinjiang from a perspective of ecosystem services

    摘要: Water shortage is one bottleneck that limits economic and social developments in arid and semi-arid areas. As the impacts of climate change and human disturbance intensify across time, uncertainties in both water resource supplies and demands increase in arid and semi-arid areas. Taking a typical arid region in China, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as an example, water yield depth (WYD) and water utilization depth (WUD) from 2002 to 2018 were simulated using the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) model and socioeconomic data. The supply-demand relationships of water resources were analyzed using the ecosystem service indices including water supply-demand difference (WSDD) and water supply rate (WSR). The internal factors in changes of WYD and WUD were explored using the controlled variable method. The results show that the supply- demand relationships of water resources in Xinjiang were in a slight deficit, but the deficit was alleviated due to increased precipitation and decreased WUD of irrigation. WYD generally experienced an increasing trend, and significant increase mainly occurred in the oasis areas surrounding both the Junggar Basin and Tarim Basin. WUD had a downward trend with a decline of 20.70%, especially in oasis areas. Water resources in most areas of Xinjiang were fully utilized and the utilization efficiency of water resources increased. The water yield module in the InVEST model was calibrated and validated using gauging station data in Xinjiang, and the result shows that the use of satellite-based water storage data helped to decrease the bias error of the InVEST model by 0.69108 m3. This study analyzed water resource supplies and demands from a perspective of ecosystem services, which expanded the scope of the application of ecosystem services and increased the research perspective of water resource evaluation. The results could provide guidance for water resource management such as spatial allocation and structural optimization of water resources in arid and semi-arid areas.

  • Three-dimensional analyses of an aspherical coronal mass ejection and its driven shock

    摘要: Context. Observations reveal that shocks can be driven by fast coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and play essential roles in particle accelerations. A critical ratio, $\delta$, derived from a shock standoff distance normalized by the radius of curvature (ROC) of a CME, allows us to estimate shock and ambient coronal parameters. However, true ROCs of CMEs are difficult to measure due to observed projection effects. Aims. We investigate the formation mechanism of a shock driven by an aspherical CME without evident lateral expansion. Through three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions without a priori assumptions of the object morphology, we estimate two principal ROCs of the CME surface and demonstrate how the difference between two principal ROCs of the CME affects the estimate of the coronal physical parameters. Methods. The CME was observed by the Sun Earth Connection Coronal and Heliospheric Investigation (SECCHI) instruments and the Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO). We used the mask-fitting method to obtain the irregular 3D shape of the CME and reconstructed the shock surface using the bow-shock model. Through smoothings with fifth-order polynomial functions and Monte Carlo simulations, we calculated the ROCs at the CME nose. Results. We find that (1) the maximal ROC is 2-4 times the minimal ROC of the CME. A significant difference between the CME ROCs implies that the assumption of one ROC of an aspherical CME could cause over-/under- estimations of the shock and coronal parameters. (2) The shock nose obeys the bow-shock formation mechanism, considering the constant standoff distance and the similar speed between the shock and CME around the nose. (3) With a more precise $\delta$ calculated via 3D ROCs in space, we derive corona parameters at high latitudes of about -50$^{\circ}$, including the Alfv{\'e}n speed and the coronal magnetic field strength.

  • Nonfunctional alleles of long-day suppressor genes independently regulate flowering time

    摘要: Due to the remarkable adaptability to various environments, rice varieties with diverse flowering times have been domesticated or improved from Oryza rufipogon. Detailed knowledge of the genetic factors controlling flowering time will facilitate understanding the adaptation mechanism in cultivated rice and enable breeders to design appropriate genotypes for distinct preferences. In this study, four genes (Hd1, DTH8, Ghd7 and OsPRR37) in a rice long-day suppression pathway were collected and sequenced in 154, 74, 69 and 62 varieties of cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) respectively. Under long-day conditions, varieties with nonfunctional alleles flowered significantly earlier than those with functional alleles. However, the four genes have different genetic effects in the regulation of flowering time: Hd1 and OsPRR37 are major genes that generally regulate rice flowering time for all varieties, while DTH8 and Ghd7 only regulate regional rice varieties. Geographic analysis and network studies suggested that the nonfunctional alleles of these suppression loci with regional adaptability were derived recently and independently. Alleles with regional adaptability should be taken into consideration for genetic improvement. The rich genetic variations in these four genes, which adapt rice to different environments, provide the flexibility needed for breeding rice varieties with diverse flowering times.

  • Mean-field effects on matter and antimatter elliptic flow

    摘要: We report our recent work on mean-field potential effects on the elliptic flows of matters and antimatters in heavy ion collisions leading to the production of a baryon-rich matter. Within the framework of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions, we have found that including mean-field potentials in the hadronic phase leads to a splitting of the elliptic flows of particles and their antiparticles, providing thus a plausible explanation of the different elliptic flows between p and anti-p, K+ and K, and + and observed by the STAR Collaboration in the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Using a partonic transport model based on the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model, we have also studied the effect of scalar and vector mean fields on the elliptic flows of quarks and antiquarks in these collisions. Converting quarks and antiquarks at hadronization to hadrons via the quark coalescence model, we have found that the elliptic flow differences between particles and antiparticles also depend on the strength of the quark vector coupling in baryon-rich quark-gluon plasma, providing thus the possibility of extracting information on the latters properties from the BES program at RHIC.

  • Observational Signatures of Tearing Instability in the Current Sheet of a Solar Flare

    摘要: Magnetic reconnection is a fundamental physical process converting magnetic energy into not only plasma energy but also particle energy in various astrophysical phenomena. In this letter, we show a unique dataset of a solar flare where various plasmoids were formed by a continually stretched current sheet. EUV images captured reconnection inflows, outflows, and particularly the recurring plasma blobs (plasmoids). X-ray images reveal nonthermal emission sources at the lower end of the current sheet, presumably as large plasmoids with a sufficiently amount of energetic electrons trapped in. In the radio domain, an upward slowly drifting pulsation structure, followed by a rare pair of oppositely drifting structures, was observed. These structures are supposed to map the evolution of the primary and the secondary plasmoids formed in the current sheet. Our results on plasmoids at different locations and scales shed important light on the dynamics, plasma heating, particle acceleration, and transport processes in the turbulent current sheet and provide observational evidence for the cascading magnetic reconnection process.

  • Spike Protein, S, of Human Coronavirus HKU1: Role in Viral Life Cycle and Application in Antibody Detection

    摘要: We recently described the discovery, genome, clinical features, genotypes and evolution of a novel and global human respiratory virus named human coronavirus HKU1 (HCoV-HKU1) which is not yet culturable. We expressed a C-terminal FLAG-tagged CoV-HKU1 spike (S) protein by the Semliki Forest Virus (SFV) system and investigated its maturation profile. Pulse chase labeling revealed that S-FLAG was expressed as high-mannose N-glycans of monomers and trimers. It was predominantly cleaved into subdomains S1 and S2 during maturation. S1 was secreted into the medium. Immunofluorescence analysis visualized S along the secretory pathway from endoplasmic reticulum to plasma membrane. Cleavage of S and release of HCoV-HKU1 S pseudotyped virus were inhibited by furin or furin-like enzyme inhibitors. The cell-based expressed full-length S-FLAG could be recognized by the convalescent serum obtained from a patient with HCoV-HKU1 pneumonia. The data suggest that the native form of HCoV-HKU1 spike expressed in our system can be used in developing serological diagnostic assay and in understanding the role of S in the viral life cycle.   • The macromolecular crystallography beamline of SSRF

    摘要: The macromolecular crystallography beamline BL17U1 at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) is the first dedicated macromolecular crystallography (MX) beamline at a third-generation synchrotron in China. It utilizes an in-vacuum undulator as a source and is energy-tunable from 5 to 18 keV. The beamline was commissioned and opened for users in April 2009. The experimental station was upgraded in 2011 with an advanced detector, a high precision goniometer and an automatic sample exchanger for high efficient and high-throughput data collection of protein crystals. The current set-up allows for remote operation of sample mounting, centering and data collection of pre-frozen crystals. In recent two years, the number of PDB depositions from this beamline exceeds 330 each year. In this paper, we describe the complete BL17U1 beamline with upgraded end station and how it is managed for user community.

  • Solar Ring Mission: Building a Panorama of the Sun and Inner-heliosphere

    摘要: Solar Ring (SOR) is a proposed space science mission to monitor and study the Sun and inner heliosphere from a full 360{\deg} perspective in the ecliptic plane. It will deploy three 120{\deg}-separated spacecraft on the 1-AU orbit. The first spacecraft, S1, locates 30{\deg} upstream of the Earth, the second, S2, 90{\deg} downstream, and the third, S3, completes the configuration. This design with necessary science instruments, e.g., the Doppler-velocity and vector magnetic field imager, wide-angle coronagraph, and in-situ instruments, will allow us to establish many unprecedented capabilities: (1) provide simultaneous Doppler-velocity observations of the whole solar surface to understand the deep interior, (2) provide vector magnetograms of the whole photosphere - the inner boundary of the solar atmosphere and heliosphere, (3) provide the information of the whole lifetime evolution of solar featured structures, and (4) provide the whole view of solar transients and space weather in the inner heliosphere. With these capabilities, Solar Ring mission aims to address outstanding questions about the origin of solar cycle, the origin of solar eruptions and the origin of extreme space weather events. The successful accomplishment of the mission will construct a panorama of the Sun and inner-heliosphere, and therefore advance our understanding of the star and the space environment that holds our life.
