  • Quantitative combination of natural anti-oxidants prevents metabolic syndrome by reducing oxidative stress

    摘要: Insulin resistance and abdominal obesity are present in the majority of people with the metabolic syndrome. Antioxidant therapy might be a useful strategy for type 2 diabetes and other insulin-resistant states. The combination of vitamin C (Vc) and vitamin E has synthetic scavenging effect on free radicals and inhibition effect on lipid peroxidation. However, there are few studies about how to define the best combination of more than three anti-oxidants as it is difficult or impossible to test the anti-oxidant effect of the combination of every concentration of each ingredient experimentally. Here we present a math model, which is based on the classical Hill equation to determine the best combination, called Fixed Dose Combination (FDC), of several natural anti-oxidants, including Vc, green tea polyphenols (GTP) and grape seed extract proanthocyanidin (GSEP). Then we investigated the effects of FDC on oxidative stress, blood glucose and serum lipid levels in cultured 3T3-L1 adipocytes, high fat diet (HFD)-fed rats which serve as obesity model, and KK-ay mice as diabetic model. The level of serum malondialdehyde (MDA) in the treated rats was studied and Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining or Oil red slices of liver and adipose tissue in the rats were examined as well. FDC shows excellent antioxidant and anti-glycation activity by attenuating lipid peroxidation. FDC determined in this investigation can become a potential solution to reduce obesity, to improve insulin sensitivity and be beneficial for the treatment of fat and diabetic patients. It is the first time to use the math model to determine the best ratio of three anti-oxidants, which can save much more time and chemical materials than traditional experimental method. This quantitative method represents a potentially new and useful strategy to screen all possible combinations of many natural anti-oxidants, therefore may help develop novel therapeutics with the potential to ameliorate the worldwide metabolic abnormalities.   • Bayesian posterior repartitioning for nested sampling

    摘要: Priors in Bayesian analyses often encode informative domain knowledge that can be useful in making the inference process more efficient. Occasionally, however, priors may be unrepresentative of the parameter values for a given dataset, which can result in inefficient parameter space exploration, or even incorrect inferences, particularly for nested sampling (NS) algorithms. Simply broadening the prior in such cases may be inappropriate or impossible in some applications. Hence our previous solution to this problem, known as posterior repartitioning (PR), redefines the prior and likelihood while keeping their product fixed, so that the posterior inferences and evidence estimates remain unchanged, but the efficiency of the NS process is significantly increased. In its most practical form, PR raises the prior to some power beta, which is introduced as an auxiliary variable that must be determined on a case-by-case basis, usually by lowering beta from unity according to some pre-defined `annealing schedule' until the resulting inferences converge to a consistent solution. Here we present a very simple yet powerful alternative Bayesian approach, in which beta is instead treated as a hyperparameter that is inferred from the data alongside the original parameters of the problem, and then marginalised over to obtain the final inference. We show through numerical examples that this Bayesian PR (BPR) method provides a very robust, self-adapting and computationally efficient `hands-off' solution to the problem of unrepresentative priors in Bayesian inference using NS. Moreover, unlike the original PR method, we show that even for representative priors BPR has a negligible computational overhead relative to standard nesting sampling, which suggests that it should be used as the default in all NS analyses.

  • Searching for Kardashev Type III civilisations from High $q$-Value Sources in the LoTSS-DR1 Value-added Catalogue

    摘要: Kardashev Type III civilisations have by definition energy requirements that are likely to generate strong excess emission in the mid-infrared (MIR) that is associated with the waste heat they generate. For those civilisations that capture starlight via Dyson sphere like constructions, the Optical to MIR flux ratio of the host galaxies is also expected to be unusually low. Since a wide range of galaxy types adhere to the infrared-radio correlation (IRC), galaxies hosting Type III civilisations should also strongly deviate from this relation. Radio data can therefore play a crucial role in breaking the degeneracy between the effects of dust obscuration in a galaxy and the signature of an energy-intensive civilisation. We have used the newly released LoTSS-DR1 value-added catalogue to create a sample of 16,367 $z < 0.2$ sources with radio and MIR flux densities, optical photometry and (photometric) redshifts. We calculated the IRC parameter $q^{{\rm22~\mu m}}_{{\rm 150~MHz}}$ = log($S_{150~{\rm MHz}}$/$S_{22~{\rm \mu m}}$) and identified 21 sources with exceptionally high values of $q^{{\rm22~\mu m}}_{{\rm 150~MHz}}$, an indication of MIR emission enhanced by a factor of $\sim$ 10. Out of the 21 high $q$-value sources, 4 sources have very red MIR colors, and appear to have relatively low optical/MIR ratios. Two of the 4 sources are not well known in the literature, they are considered as potential hosts of Type III civilisations. These sources deserve further study and investigation. Finally, we note that extending our analysis to the full LoTSS survey area can place very strong constraints on the incidence of Type III civilisations in the universe.

  • A Subgrid Turbulent Mean Field Dynamo Model for Cosmological Galaxy Formation Simulations

    摘要: Magnetic fields have been included in cosmological simulations of galaxy formation only recently, due to advances in numerical techniques and a better understanding of the galaxy formation physics. In this paper, we develop a new subgrid model for the turbulent dynamo that takes place in the supersonic interstellar medium in star-forming galaxies. It is based on a mean-field approach that computes the turbulent kinetic energy at unresolved scales (the so-called subgrid scales) and modifies the induction equation to account for the corresponding $\alpha$ dynamo. Our subgrid model depends on one free parameter, the quenching parameter, that controls the saturation of the subgrid dynamo. Thanks to this mean-field approach, we can now model the fast amplification of the magnetic field inside turbulent star-forming galaxies, without relying on artificially strong initial fields or without using prohibitively expensive high-resolution simulations. We show that the evolution of the magnetic field in our zoom-in Milky Way-like galaxy is consistent with a simple picture, in which the field is in equipartition with the turbulent kinetic energy inside the star-forming disc, with a field strength around 10 $\mu$G at low redshift, while at the same time strong galactic outflows fill the halo with a slightly weaker magnetic field, whose strength (10 nG) is consistent will the ideal MHD dilution factor. Our results are in good agreement with recent theoretical and numerical predictions. We also compare our simulation with Faraday depth observations at both low and high redshift, seeing overall good agreement with some caveats. Our model naturally predicts stronger magnetic fields at high redshift (around 100 $\mu$G in the galaxy and 1 $\mu$G in the halo), but also stronger depolarisation effects due to stronger turbulence at early time.

  • Detecting gamma-rays with moderate resolution and large field of view: Particle detector arrays and water Cherenkov technique

    摘要: The fields of cosmic ray astrophysics, gamma-ray astrophysics, and neutrino astrophysics have diverged somewhat. But for the air showers in the GeV and TeV energy ranges, the ground-based detector techniques have considerable overlaps. VHE gamma-ray astronomy is the observational study measuring the directions, flux, energy spectra, and time variability of the sources of these gamma rays. With the low flux of gamma rays, and the background of charged particle cosmic rays, the distinguishing characteristic of gamma-ray air shower detectors is large size and significant photon to charge particle discrimination. Air shower telescopes for gamma-ray astronomy consist of an array of detectors capable of measuring the passage of particles through the array elements. To maximize signal at energies of a TeV or so, the array needs to be built at high altitude as the maximum number of shower particles is high in the atmosphere. These detectors have included sparse arrays of shower counters, dense arrays of scintillators or resistive plate counters (RPC), buried muon detectors in concert with surface detectors, or many-interaction-deep Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCD). In general these detectors are sensitive over a large field of view, the whole of the sky is a typical sensitivity and perhaps 2/3 of the sky selected for clean analysis, but with only moderate resolution in energy, typically due to shower-to-shower fluctuations and the intrinsic sampling of the detector. These telescopes though, operate continuously, despite weather, moonlight, day or night, and without needing to be pointed to a specific target for essentially a 100\% duty cycle. In this chapter we will examine the performance and characteristics of such detectors. These are contrasted with the Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescopes which also operate in this energy range, and both current and future proposed experiments are described.

  • Standing up for close others: The relationship effect on moral courage across harm/care and fairness contexts

    摘要: Moral courage, standing up for others and intervening when a norm is violated, is viewed as a virtue in modern societies. However, it remains unclear how moral courage varies in interpersonal relationships and across moral contexts. Two studies were designed to test the effect of relationship type (close or distant) between the bystander and the victim on moral courage across harm/care and fairness contexts. The results showed that participants reported greater levels of moral courage when the victim was their family member or friend (vs. a stranger), and this relationship effect was stronger in the harm/care (vs. fairness) context. In addition, anger, a moral emotion, served a mediation role in the relationship effect on moral courage in both moral contexts. Taken together, the current findings demonstrate a relationship effect on the intentions of moral courage, especially in the harm/care context, suggesting that the relationship (between bystander and victim) and the context (harm/care vs. fairness) should be considered in understanding interventions against a norm violation.

  • Spatial and temporal gradients in the rate of dust deposition and aerosol optical thickness in southwestern Iran

    摘要: The southwestern Iran is one of the regions that are most prone to dust events. The objective of this study is the analysis of the spatial and temporal distributions of dust deposition rate as a key factor for finding the relative impact of the dust. First, the monthly mean aerosol optical thickness (AOT) from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) was analyzed and compared with the dust amount variations from ground deposition rate (GDR), and the results were further used to investigate the spatial and temporal distributions of dust events in southwestern Iran for the period between 2014 and 2015. Moving air mass trajectories, using the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model, were proven to be a discriminator of their local and regional origin. The results from GDR analysis produced a correlation coefficient between dust event history and deposition rates at dust magnitudes of >0.93 that is meaningful at the 95% confidence level. Furthermore, the deposition rates varied from 3 g/m2 per month in summer to 10 g/m2 per month in spring and gave insight into the transport direction of the dust. Within the same time series, AOT correspondences with MODIS on Terra in four aerosol thickness layers (clean, thin, thick, and strong thick) were shown in relation to each other. The deepest mixed layers were observed in spring and summer with a thickness of approximately 3500 m above ground level in the study area. Investigations of ground-based observations were correlated with the same variations for each aerosol thickness layer from MODIS images and they can be applied to discriminate layers of aeolian dust from layers of other aerosols. Together, dust distribution plots from AOT participated to enhance mass calculations and estimation deposition rates from the thick and strong thick aerosol thickness layers using the results from GDR. Despite all the advances of AOT, under certain circumstances, ground-based observations are better able to represent aerosol conditions over the study area, which were tested in southwestern Iran, even though the low number of observations is a commonly acknowledged drawback of GDR.

  • Uniform Forward-Modeling Analysis of Ultracool Dwarfs. II. Atmospheric Properties of 55 Late-T Dwarfs

    摘要: We present a large forward-modeling analysis for 55 late-T (T7-T9) dwarfs, using low-resolution ($R\approx150$) near-infrared spectra and cloudless Sonora-Bobcat model atmospheres. We derive the objects' effective temperatures, surface gravities, metallicities, radii, masses, and luminosities using our newly developed Bayesian framework, and use the resulting population properties to test the model atmospheres. We find (1) our objects' fitted metallicities are 0.3-0.4 dex lower than those of nearby stars; (2) their ages derived from spectroscopic parameters are implausibly young; (3) their fitted temperatures show a similar spread as empirical temperature scales at a given spectral type but are $\sim100$ K hotter for $\geqslant$T8 dwarfs; and (4) their spectroscopically inferred masses are unphysically small. These results suggest the Sonora-Bobcat assumptions of cloudless and chemical-equilibrium atmospheres do not adequately reproduce late-T dwarf spectra. We also find a gravity- and a metallicity-dependence of temperatures. Combining the resulting parameter posteriors of our sample, we quantify the degeneracy between surface gravity and metallicity such that an increase in $Z$ combined with a $3.4\times$ increase in $\log{g}$ results in a spectrum that has similar fitted parameters. We note the systematic difference between our 1.0-2.5 $\mu$m spectra and the Sonora-Bobcat models is $\approx$2-4% of the objects' peak $J$-band fluxes, implying modeling systematics will exceed measurement uncertainties when analyzing data with $J$-band S/N $\gtrsim50$. Using our large sample, we examine the fitting residuals as a function of wavelength and atmospheric properties to discern how to improve the models. Our work constitutes the largest analysis of brown dwarf spectra using multi-metallicity models and the most systematic examination of ultracool model atmospheres to date.

  • Uniform Forward-Modeling Analysis of Ultracool Dwarfs. I. Methodology and Benchmarking

    摘要: We present a forward-modeling framework using the Bayesian inference tool Starfish and cloudless Sonora-Bobcat model atmospheres to analyze low-resolution ($R\approx80-250$) near-infrared ($1.0-2.5$ $\mu$m) spectra of T dwarfs. Our approach infers effective temperatures, surface gravities, metallicities, radii, and masses, and by accounting for uncertainties from model interpolation and correlated residuals due to instrumental effects and modeling systematics, produces more realistic parameter posteriors than traditional ($\chi^2$-based) spectral-fitting analyses. We validate our framework by fitting the model atmospheres themselves and finding negligible offsets between derived and input parameters. We apply our methodology to three well-known benchmark late-T dwarfs, HD 3651B, GJ 570D, and Ross 458C, using both solar and non-solar metallicity atmospheric models. We also derive these benchmarks' physical properties using their bolometric luminosities, their primary stars' ages and metallicities, and Sonora-Bobcat evolutionary models. Assuming the evolutionary-based parameters are more robust, we find our atmospheric-based, forward-modeling analysis produces two outcomes. For HD 3615B and GJ 570D, spectral fits provide accurate $T_{\rm eff}$ and $R$ but underestimated $\log{g}$ (by $\approx1.2$ dex) and $Z$ (by $\approx0.35$ dex), likely due to the systematics from modeling the potassium line profiles. For Ross 458C, spectral fits provide accurate $\log{g}$ and $Z$ but overestimated $T_{\rm eff}$ (by $\approx120$ K) and underestimated $R$ (by $\approx1.6\times$), likely because our model atmospheres lack clouds, reduced vertical temperature gradients, or disequilibrium processes. Finally, the spectroscopically inferred masses of these benchmarks are all considerably underestimated.

  • Observed Rate Variation in Superflaring G-type Stars

    摘要: Flare occurrence on the Sun is highly variable, exhibiting both short term variation due to the emergence and evolution of active regions, and long-term variation from the solar cycle. On solar-like stars, much larger stellar flares (superflares) have been observed, and it is of interest to determine whether observed rates of superflare occurrence exhibit similar variability to solar flares. We analyse 274 G-type stars using data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and identify seven stars which exhibit statistically significant changes in the rate of superflare occurrence by fitting a piecewise constant-rate model with the Bayesian Blocks algorithm (Scargle et al 2012; arXiv:1207.5578). We investigate the properties of these stars and their flaring rates, and discuss the possible reasons for the low number of stars with detectable rate variation.

  • Noise2Astro: Astronomical Image Denoising With Self-Supervised NeuralNetworks

    摘要: In observational astronomy, noise obscures signals of interest. Large-scale astronomical surveys are growing in size and complexity, which will produce more data and increase the workload of data processing. Developing automated tools, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN), for denoising has become a promising area of research. We investigate the feasibility of CNN-based self-supervised learning algorithms (e.g., Noise2Noise) for denoising astronomical images. We experimented with Noise2Noise on simulated noisy astronomical data. We evaluate the results based on the accuracy of recovering flux and morphology. This algorithm can well recover the flux for Poisson noise ( $98.13${\raisebox{0.5ex}{\tiny$^{+0.77}_{-0.90} $}$\large\%$}) and for Gaussian noise when image data has a smooth signal profile ($96.45${\raisebox{0.5ex}{\tiny$^{+0.80}_{-0.96} $}$\large\%$}).

  • Cold Gas Reservoirs of Low- and High-mass Central Galaxies Differ in Response to Active Galactic Nucleus Feedback

    摘要: The growth of supermassive black holes, especially the associated state of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), is generally believed to be the key step in regulating star formation in massive galaxies. As the fuel of star formation, the cold gas reservoir is a direct probe of the effect of AGN feedback on their host galaxies. However, in observation, no clear connection has been found between AGN activity and the cold gas mass. In this paper, we find observational signals of significant depletion of the total neutral hydrogen gas reservoir in optically-selected type-2 AGN host central galaxies of stellar mass $10^{9}$--$10^{10}M_\odot$. The effect of AGN feedback on the cold gas reservoir is stronger for higher star formation rates and higher AGN luminosity. But it becomes much weaker above this mass range, consistent with previous findings focusing on massive galaxies. Our result suggests that low-mass and gas-rich AGN host central galaxies would first form dense cores before AGN feedback is triggered, removing their neutral hydrogen gas. More massive central galaxies may undergo a significantly different formation scenario by gradually building up dense cores with less effective and recurrent AGN feedback.

  • A Universal Profile for Stacked Filaments from Cold Dark Matter Simulations

    摘要: We study the stacked filaments connecting group-mass halo pairs, using dark-matter-only N-body simulations. We calculate the dark matter over-density profile of these stacked filaments at different redshifts as a function of the distance perpendicular to the filament axis. A four-parameter universal functional form, including three comoving scale radii and one amplitude parameter (core density), provides a good fit out to a radius of 20 cMpc/h for stacked filaments over a range of redshifts, lengths and masses. The scale radii are approximately independent of redshift but increase as power-laws with the comoving filament length. Lastly, we compare the scaling of the filament mass measured directly from the simulations to the predicted scaling from the halo-halo-matter three-point correlation function as a function of redshift and of the mass of the halo pairs. We find that both measured scalings are similar to, but somewhat shallower than the predictions, by 10% and 30%, respectively. These results provide a template to interpret present and upcoming observational results based on stacking, for example, weak lensing, thermal and kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich, or X-ray observations.

  • Semi-analytic spectral fitting: simultaneously modelling the mass accumulation and chemical evolution in MaNGA spiral galaxies

    摘要: We develop a novel semi-analytic spectral fitting approach to quantify the star-formation histories (SFHs) and chemical enrichment histories (ChEHs) of individual galaxies. We construct simple yet general chemical evolution models that account for gas inflow and outflow processes as well as star formation, to investigate the evolution of merger-free star-forming systems. These models are fitted directly to galaxies' absorption-line spectra, while their emission lines are used to constrain current gas phase metallicity and star formation rate. We apply this method to spiral galaxies selected from the SDSS-IV MaNGA survey. By fitting the co-added absorption-line spectra for each galaxy, and using the emission-line constraints on present-day metallicity and star formation, we reconstruct both the SFHs and the ChEHs for all objects in the sample. We can use these reconstructions to obtain archaeological measures of derived correlations such as the mass--metallicity relation at any redshift, which compare favourably with direct observations. We find that both the SFHs and ChEHs have strong mass dependence: massive galaxies accumulate their stellar masses and become enriched earlier. This mass dependence causes the observed flattening of the mass--metallicity relation at lower redshifts. The model also reproduces the observed gas-to-stellar mass ratio and its mass dependence. Moreover, we are able to determine that more massive galaxies have earlier gas infall times and shorter infall time-scales, and that the early chemical enrichment of low-mass galaxies is suppressed by strong outflows, while outflows are not very significant in massive galaxies.

  • Dark Freeze-out Cogenesis

    摘要: We propose a new mechanism where a multi-component dark sector generates the observed dark matter abundance and baryon asymmetry and thus addresses the coincidence between the two. The thermal freeze-out of dark matter annihilating into meta-stable dark partners sets the dark matter relic abundance while providing the out-of-equilibrium condition for baryogenesis. The meta-stable state triggers baryon asymmetry production by its decay well after the freeze-out and potentially induces a period of early matter domination before its decay. The dark matter and baryon abundances are related through number conservation within the dark sector (cogenesis). The "coincidence" is a natural outcome with GeV- to TeV-scale symmetric dark matter and the dark sector's interactions with the Standard Model quarks. We present a UV-complete model and explore its phenomenological predictions, including dark matter direct detection signals, LHC signatures of new massive particles with color charges and long-lived particles with displaced vertices, dark matter-induced nucleon conversions, (exotic) dark matter indirect detection signals, and effects on the cosmological matter power spectrum. As a side result, we provide a novel analytical treatment for dark sector freeze-out, which may prove useful in the study of related scenarios.

  • Prospects for the detection of the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background with the experiments SK-Gd and JUNO

    摘要: The advent of gadolinium-loaded Super-Kamiokande (SK-Gd) and of the soon-to-start JUNO liquid scintillator detector marks a substantial improvement in the global sensitivity for the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background (DSNB). The present article reviews the detector properties most relevant for the DSNB searches in both experiments and estimates the expected signal and background levels. Based on these inputs, we evaluate the sensitivity of both experiments individually and combined. Using a simplified statistical approach, we find that both SK-Gd and JUNO have the potential to reach $>$3$\sigma$ evidence of the DSNB signal within 10 years of measurement. The combined results are likely to enable a $5\sigma$ discovery of the DSNB signal within the next decade.

  • Electroweak Beautygenesis: From b -> s CP Violation to the Cosmic Baryon Asymmetry

    摘要: We address the possibility that CP violation in B-s-(B) over bar (s) mixing may help explain the origin of the cosmic baryon asymmetry. We propose a new baryogenesis mechanism-"electroweak beautygenesis"-explicitly showing that these two CP-violating phenomena can be sourced by a common CP phase. As an illustration, we work in the two-Higgs-doublet model. Because the relevant CP phase is flavor off diagonal, this mechanism is less severely constrained by null results of electric dipole moment searches than other scenarios. We show how measurements of flavor observables by the D0, CDF, and LHCb collaborations test this scenario.

  • Weak Lensing Tomographic Redshift Distribution Inference for the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program three-year shape catalogue

    摘要: We present posterior sample redshift distributions for the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program Weak Lensing three-year (HSC Y3) analysis. Using the galaxies' photometry and spatial cross-correlations, we conduct a combined Bayesian Hierarchical Inference of the sample redshift distributions. The spatial cross-correlations are derived using a subsample of Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) with accurate redshift information available up to a photometric redshift of $z < 1.2$. We derive the photometry-based constraints using a combination of two empirical techniques calibrated on spectroscopic- and multiband photometric data that covers a spatial subset of the shear catalog. The limited spatial coverage induces a cosmic variance error budget that we include in the inference. Our cross-correlation analysis models the photometric redshift error of the LRGs to correct for systematic biases and statistical uncertainties. We demonstrate consistency between the sample redshift distributions derived using the spatial cross-correlations, the photometry, and the posterior of the combined analysis. Based on this assessment, we recommend conservative priors for sample redshift distributions of tomographic bins used in the three-year cosmological Weak Lensing analyses.

    摘要: Titan's thick atmosphere is primarily composed of nitrogen and methane. Complex chemistry happening in Titan's atmosphere produces optically thick organic hazes. These hazes play significant roles in Titan's atmosphere and on its surface, and their optical properties are crucial for understanding many processes happening on Titan. Due to the lack of such information, the optical constants of laboratory prepared Titan haze analogues are essential inputs for atmospheric modeling and data analysis of remote sensing observations of Titan. Here, we perform laboratory simulations in a Titan relevant environment, analyze the resulting Titan haze analogues using vacuum Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and calculate the optical constants from the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra. We provide a reliable set of optical constants of Titan haze analogue in the wavelength range from 0.4 to 3.5 micron and will extend to 28.5 micron in the near future, which can both be used for analyzing existing and future observational data of Titan. This study establishes a feasible method to determine optical constants of haze analogues of (exo)planetary bodies.

  • "Direct" Gas-Phase Metallicity in Local Analogs of High-Redshift Galaxies: Empirical Metallicity Calibrations for High-Redshift Star-Forming Galaxies

    摘要: We study the direct gas-phase oxygen abundance using the well-detected auroral [OIII]4363 line in the stacked spectra of a sample of local analogs of high-redshift galaxies. These local analogs share the same location as $z\sim2$ star-forming galaxies on the Baldwin-Phillips-Terlevich diagram. This type of analog has the same ionized interstellar medium (ISM) properties as high-redshift galaxies. We establish empirical metallicity calibrations between the direct gas-phase oxygen abundances ($7.8<12+\log(\rm{O/H})<8.4$) and the N2/O3N2 indices in our local analogs. We find significant systematic offsets between the metallicity calibrations for our local analogs of high-redshift galaxies and those derived from the local HII regions and a sample of local reference galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The N2 and O3N2 metallicities will be underestimated by 0.05-0.1~dex relative to our calibration if one simply applies the local metallicity calibration in previous studies to high-redshift galaxies. Local metallicity calibrations also cause discrepancies of metallicity measurements in high-redshift galaxies using the N2 and O3N2 indicators. In contrast, our new calibrations produce consistent metallicities between these two indicators. We also derive metallicity calibrations for R23, O32, log([OIII]/H\beta), and log([NeIII]/[OII]) indices in our local analogs, which show significant offset compared to those in the SDSS reference galaxies. By comparing with MAPPINGS photoionization models, the different empirical metallicity calibration relations in the local analogs and the SDSS reference galaxies can be shown to be primarily due to the change of ionized ISM conditions.
