Abstract: The presence of negative feedback in vision communication is quite common in managerial practices and has increasingly garnered scholarly attention in recent years. However, prior investigations into this domain remain in their infancy. While some studies suggest that subordinates might lower their goal expectations after receiving negative feedback, there is also evidence suggesting that such feedback can motivate subordinates to enhance their performance. Consequently, the precise impact of negative feedback on subordinates’ perception of the leader’s vision remains unclear. To optimize the use of negative feedback, it is imperative to explore negative feedback strategies that are beneficial to subordinates’ vision expectations. The construal level of the message plays a pivotal role in shaping the receiver’s motivation and cognition. Drawing on fantasy realization theory, this study investigates the mechanisms through which the construal level of negative feedback in vision communication affects subordinates’ vision pursuit, particularly under favorable and unfavorable organizational conditions. This exploration aims to offer guidance for leaders to improve organizational communication.
To examine the influence of negative feedback’s construal level on subordinates’ vision pursuit, three studies were conducted. The first study employed a scenario experiment, involving 76 participants divided into four groups. Subjects were exposed to stimuli related to organizational conditions and leader’s speeches. In the second study, 301 participants completed surveys at two time points. At Time 1, they reported the construal level of negative feedback of their immediate superiors during vision communication and evaluated the organizational conditions. At Time 2, they reported their perceptions of vision expectations and vision pursuit. The third study involved a broader survey with 619 valid responses, using refined scales and a sample-split technique to minimize common method bias.
The results showed that: (1) For vision communication under favorable organizational conditions, the construal level of negative feedback had a negative relationship with subordinates’ vision expectations. (2) Under unfavorable organizational conditions, the construal level of negative feedback had a positive relationship with subordinates’ vision expectations. (3) The construal level of negative feedback further affected subordinates’ vision pursuit behavior through vision expectations. (4) This mediating effect is moderated by organizational conditions.
This study makes several contributions. First, it examines the influence of leaders’ negative feedback on subordinates’ expectations and behaviors through the lens of wording strategy, thereby advancing the research on negative feedback. Second, it explores the boundary conditions of negative feedback’s construal level in vision communication. By integrating negative feedback with vision communication, this study has built a theoretical bridge for the integration of multiple communication strategies. Additionally, this study extends the application of fantasy realization theory to workplace contexts.

  • Research on the Cultivation of computational Thinking among college students under the background of Digital China : Hot spots, Trends and suggestions

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Information Science submitted time 2023-05-28

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Training college students with computational thinking is an important measure to implement the Overall Layout Plan of Digital China Construction in terms of "strengthening talent support". However, the training of computational thinking ability of Chinese college students is not clear, and the training effect is not obvious problems still exist. It is very important to explore ways to cultivate computational thinking of college students that meet the requirements of "Digital China" construction. [Method/Process] By means of CiteSpace knowledge graph tool, this paper makes a quantitative analysis of 940 literatures in the field of computational thinking published in SSCI and CSSCI source journals from March 2006 to December 2022, so as to find out suitable ways to cultivate computational thinking for college students. [Result/Conclusion] The research findings are as follows: (1) The research direction of computational thinking training mainly focuses on solving practical problems. (2) The research content of computational thinking training is more concerned with interdisciplinary fusion training. (3) The teaching form and teaching area of the training course of computational thinking for noncomputer majors are single, and the lack of systematic course design. (4) The research intensity of computational thinking training in China is generally lower than that in foreign countries. Based on the above findings, this paper puts forward some suggestions on training college students' computational thinking from four aspects: training orientation, interdisciplinary, curriculum design and international cooperation.

  • Analyzing Characteristics, Development Trends, and Enlightenment of U.S. Digital Literacy Policies

    Abstract:

[Purpose/Significance] Digital literacy is a requisite for citizens to adapt to the digital transformation of society. China's national digital literacy and skills enhancement efforts have been systematically promoted. By exploring the thematic characteristics of U.S. digital literacy policies and analyzing development trends, this paper aims to propose references for the improvement of a localized toolbox for China's digital literacy. [Method/Process] The study sorted the 2015-2022 June U.S. federal government bill and selected 19 samples of digital literacy-related policies. Using Nvivo12 Plus, high-frequency word statistics, co-word analysis, and cluster analysis were conducted. A strategical diagram was drawn to reveal the thematic characteristics and development trends. [Result/Conclusion] This study finds that planning guarantee locates in a strategic position for a long time; financial support-related provisions are more independent and gaining importance in a continuous; resource matching places at the edge of the policy and has a low level of attention. Based on the research results and the Chinese situation, the study points out the enlightenment in three aspects involving coordinated planning of digital literacy strategies, financial support for ICT resource matching, and full coverage of digital literacy education.

  • Conflict or gain? The effect of perceived overqualification on work-family relationships

Subjects: Psychology >> Management Psychology submitted time 2023-01-28

Abstract: With the popularization of higher education and the changing economic environment, perceived overqualification has received widespread attention from managers and researchers in recent years. However, previous studies have mainly focused on the effect of perceived overqualification on employees’ work attitudes or behaviors within orgaizations, and few studies have paid sufficient attention to whether and how overqualification produces spillover effects from work to family. To enrich our knowledge about the effects of perceived overqualification outside organizations, we examined the spillover effects of employees’ perceived overqualification on employees’ work-family relationships, as well as its crossover effect on spouses’ family-work relationships. Specifically, first, based on the cognitive appraisal theory, we investigated the double-edged sword effect of employees’ perceived overqualification on their own work-family conflict; Second, based on the work-family enrichment theory model, we tested the dual path mechanism and boundary conditions in the relationship between employees’ perceived qualifications and their work-family enrichment; Third, based on the gender role orientation theory, we examined the crossover effect of employees’ perceived overqualification on their spouses’ family-work conflict and family-work enrichment, and interactive moderating effect of employees’ gender and gender role orientation. Our findings not only help to reveal the impact of perceived overqualification on work-family relationships from different theoretical perspectives, but also provide pracitical implications for organization management.
